Job description
BPA is more than an engineering firm — it’s a passionate team shaping the buildings and infrastructure of tomorrow. With offices across Canada, our expertise in sustainable design and technical innovation drives impactful projects from coast to coast. Joining BPA means putting your talent to work on meaningful projects, collaborating with recognized experts, and growing in a flexible, people-focused and forward-thinking environment. Why This Role Matters

Buildings account for a significant share of energy use, emissions, and long‑term operational cost. The performance of the building enclosure is central to solving these challenges. In this role, you will work at the intersection of building science, sustainability, and real‑world construction, collaborating closely with BPA’s Sustainability Engineering group to deliver envelope solutions that improve durability, energy efficiency, resilience, and lifecycle performance. Your work will directly influence how buildings perform, how long they last, and how sustainably they operate. You will lead and mentor team members, supporting their growth into capable, productive, and valued professionals. The Opportunity

We are seeking a

Senior

Building Enclosure Engineer

to join our

Building Science and Restoration team . This is a senior, hands‑on role offering the opportunity to lead investigations, shape enclosure design and renewal strategies, review new construction designs, and validate performance through testing and commissioning. You will work directly with clients, mentor developing professionals, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver practical, high‑performance solutions for both existing buildings and new projects. What You’ll Be Excited To Work On

Enclosure Investigation, Analysis & Performance Validation

Lead investigations into enclosure and structural performance issues involving cladding, roofing, glazing, below‑grade assemblies, and interfaces. Plan and execute building enclosure testing programs, including air leakage testing, water penetration testing, and field performance verification. Conduct and interpret infrared thermography to identify thermal anomalies, insulation deficiencies, moisture intrusion, and air leakage pathways. Perform thermal and hygrothermal analysis to evaluate heat, air, and moisture behaviour and inform durability‑focused design decisions. Diagnose root causes of failures and recurring issues, developing practical, constructible, and durable solutions. Design, Review & Integrated Sustainability

Design rehabilitation, restoration, repair, and new building enclosure systems informed by testing, analysis, and sustainability objectives. Provide design review services to Architects for new and existing buildings, focusing on enclosure continuity, constructability, and long‑term performance. Collaborate closely with Architects and BPA’s Sustainability Engineering group to align envelope strategies with energy modelling, carbon reduction, resilience planning, and operational performance goals. Work with mechanical and electrical teams to integrate enclosure performance into whole‑building solutions. Develop high‑quality details, specifications, and performance criteria grounded in building science and real‑world construction practices. From concept through commissioning

Support projects from early planning and schematic design through construction and commissioning. Participate in building enclosure commissioning, including review of submittals, mock‑ups, testing protocols, and field observations. Coordinate testing and commissioning activities to confirm envelope performance aligns with design intent, energy targets, and client objectives. Conduct construction‑phase field reviews and prepare site instructions, change orders, progress draw approvals, and letters of certification. Leadership, Mentorship & Practice Growth

Lead technical assignments and provide mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers. Review work for technical quality, constructability, and clarity. Coordinate with Project Managers and Project Directors to plan work, manage teams, manage priorities, and deliver projects successfully. Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients, contractors, and internal teams. Prepare and contribute to proposals and technical submissions, strengthening BPA’s integrated building science and sustainability practice. Foster a collaborative, knowledge‑sharing environment where people can grow and succeed. What You’ll Do Day To Day

Lead building enclosure analysis and design for rehabilitation, renewal, and new construction. Lead or support condition surveys, field investigations, envelope testing, and technical reviews. Conduct thermal and hygrothermal modelling in collaboration with sustainability and energy specialists. Translate field findings, test results, and analysis into clear reports, drawings, and specifications. Complete property and building condition assessments for pre‑purchase, refinancing, capital planning, and due diligence. Develop envelope repair, renewal, and replacement strategies across a range of building types. Collaborate with CAD and BIM teams to produce accurate, coordinated documentation. Stay current with applicable codes, standards, and best practices. Actively contribute to business development through improvement and expansion of services. Your profile
