Role: Java with Agentic AI Engineer

Title: AVP/VP

Location: Montreal, QC(Day 1 Onsite/Hybrid) – Fulltime

Mode of Work: 3 days/week onsite required

Required Experience: 5+ years

We are looking for a highly skilled
Java Backend Engineer
to design, develop, and enhance scalable, high-performance enterprise applications. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in
Core Java
, distributed systems, cloud technologies, and modern software engineering practices. Exposure to
Agentic AI development tools
(such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar AI-assisted development platforms) is highly preferred. Experience in financial services or risk platforms is an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and support high-performance Java backend applications.
• Build scalable, distributed systems capable of handling large volumes of data and complex business logic.
• Develop robust APIs and microservices using modern Java frameworks.
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, QA teams, and global engineering teams to deliver high-quality software.
• Utilize
  Agentic AI tools
  (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, AI coding assistants) to improve developer productivity while maintaining high standards of code quality, accuracy, and security.
• Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical design sessions.
• Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines and follow DevOps best practices.
• Work in Agile/Scrum teams to ensure timely delivery of features.
• Mentor junior developers and contribute to technical leadership within the team.
• Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Ensure applications meet security, compliance, and coding standards.

Required Skills

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in Core Java backend development.
• Strong knowledge of Java 8/11/17, Multithreading, Concurrency, Collections, and JVM internals.
• Experience with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, Spring Security, and RESTful APIs.
• Strong understanding of Data Structures, Algorithms, Object-Oriented Design, and Design Patterns.
• Experience designing and developing distributed systems and microservices architecture.
• Strong SQL skills with experience in relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, or SQL Server.
• Familiarity with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Cassandra.
• Experience with messaging technologies like Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Hands-on experience with Git, Maven/Gradle, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
• Excellent debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Agentic AI development tools, including GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, Amazon Q Developer, or similar AI-assisted software development platforms.
• Experience integrating AI APIs or LLM-based workflows into enterprise applications.
• Cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Experience with Apache Spark,
  Snowflake, or other big data technologies.
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Experience with Docker,
  Kubernetes, and cloud-native application development.
• Working knowledge of Python and Linux/Unix scripting.
• Exposure to financial services, fintech, or market risk platforms is a plus.
