We are seeking a strategic and operationally focused Director, Environment, Health and Safety to lead our Canadian EHS strategy and strengthen performance across our operating companies.

Reporting directly to the President of Colas Canada, you will advise executive leadership and partner with operational teams to protect people, manage critical risks, improve environmental performance, and support responsible growth. Your mandate will include safety culture, regulatory compliance, carbon reduction, biodiversity, environmental management, and continuous improvement.

What Success Looks Like

Within the first 12 months, you will:

• Establish a Canadian EHS roadmap with measurable priorities and clear accountability.
• Strengthen the visibility and governance of critical safety and environmental risks.
• Improve the consistency of EHS systems, audits, reporting, and corrective-action management.
• Establish a reliable carbon-accounting process and practical reduction priorities.
• Build strong relationships with executive, operational, subsidiary, and global stakeholders.
• Strengthen the capability and alignment of Canada's EHS community.

What You Will Lead

• Develop and execute Colas Canada's national EHS strategy, governance, standards, and performance objectives.
• Strengthen safety culture and critical-risk management in partnership with operational leaders.
• Lead environmental priorities, including compliance, carbon accounting and reduction, biodiversity, waste, emissions, and incident management.
• Establish consistent EHS management systems, audits, investigations, reporting, and corrective-action processes across operating companies.
• Monitor legislation and emerging risks, providing clear guidance to executives and operational teams.
• Lead and develop the Canadian EHS network, building capability and sharing effective practices across subsidiaries.
• Partner with Operations, Equipment and Industry, Procurement, Finance, Legal, Human Resources, Insurance, and global Colas teams to embed EHS into business decisions.

What You Bring

• At least 10 years of progressive EHS leadership experience in construction, transportation infrastructure, manufacturing, industrial services, materials, or another multi-site operational environment.
• Experience developing and implementing EHS strategies, management systems, audits, and improvement programs across multiple operating entities.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian occupational health and safety and environmental requirements across multiple provinces.
• Experience in environmental performance, greenhouse-gas accounting, carbon reduction, sustainability, or biodiversity.
• A record of strengthening safety culture and influencing operational performance in a decentralized or matrixed organization.
• Strong strategic judgment, operational credibility, and the ability to translate complex information into clear business recommendations.
• Effective executive communication, relationship-building, and change-leadership skills.
• A bachelor's degree in environmental science, occupational health and safety, engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Availability to travel regularly across Canada, representing approximately 20% to 40% of working time, depending on business priorities and operational requirements.

Additional Assets

• Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or another relevant EHS credential.
• Experience in roadbuilding, heavy civil construction, asphalt, aggregates, ready-mix concrete, or industrial operations.
• Experience leading serious-incident investigations and critical-risk programs.
• Experience implementing EHS technology, reporting systems, or performance dashboards.
• Familiarity with recognized environmental, safety, carbon-accounting, or sustainability frameworks.
• French and English language capability.
