Job description

Apply for Associate Veterinarian at AprilVets in Fredericton, NB, CA. This Full time on site position offers great opportunities for career growth. AprilVets' experienced veterinary team is growing, and we are seeking a passionate associate veterinarian to join us.

Company Overview

AprilVets Fredericton is an innovative small animal hospital dedicated to creating an elevated healthcare experience for our vet team, clients, and patients. As an independent, veterinary-led clinic, we are looking to foster long‑term relationships with our team members. Our clinic boasts a warm and welcoming atmosphere where every pet, client, and team member feels valued.

Facility and Culture

Since opening our doors, AprilVets Fredericton has become a trusted part of this vibrant community. Our purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility was thoughtfully designed to feel welcoming, warm, and bright for our team, our clients, and their beloved pets - and nearly a year in, that is exactly the atmosphere our clients tell us they experience. We have built a supportive and collaborative workplace that prioritizes professional and personal growth, where your ideas are valued, and where we deliver exceptional care and a positive experience for pets and their owners.

Opportunity

The response from the Fredericton community has been wonderful. Our client base has grown steadily over our first year, and we are now adding an associate veterinarian to our team so that we can continue to give every patient the time and attention they deserve. This is a growth hire, not a backfill - you would be joining an established practice with an existing caseload, a proven team, and workflows that already work. You will practise medicine the way you were trained to - with appointment times that allow for thorough workups, a skilled RVT support team handling technical duties, and the autonomy to build your own caseload and areas of interest. Adding a veterinarian also means a more sustainable schedule for everyone on the team. This is a full-time position for a licensed Associate Veterinarian. New graduates and experienced veterinarians are both encouraged to apply but an experienced veterinarian is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree from an accredited veterinary college
  • Licensed, or eligible for licensure, with the New Brunswick Veterinary Medical Association (NBVMA)
  • Graduates of non-accredited programs must hold NEB or equivalent certification
  • Prior small animal practice experience is required
  • Strong foundation in small animal medicine, surgery, dentistry, and diagnostic imaging
  • Confidence in routine soft tissue surgery and dental procedures, with a willingness to expand your surgical skill set
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain treatment options clearly and compassionately
  • A compassionate nature with the ability to empathize and interact effectively with clients and their pets
  • Sound clinical judgment and comfort making decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team, mentor support staff, and contribute to a positive work culture
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including timely medical record completion
  • Technically proficient and comfortable working within a cloud-based practice management system (PIMS)
  • Thrives in a collaborative environment
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on advancements in veterinary medicine

Responsibilities and Technical Applications

  • Provide comprehensive wellness, preventive, and sick patient care for small animal patients
  • Perform thorough physical examinations, formulate differential diagnoses, and develop treatment plans
  • Perform routine soft tissue surgeries, including spays, neuters, mass removals, and dental procedures with extractions, etc.
  • Interpret in-house diagnostics, including bloodwork, urinalysis, cytology, and radiographs (Idexx in-house diagnostics)
  • Develop and oversee anaesthetic and analgesic protocols, working alongside our RVT team for patient monitoring and recovery
  • Educate and provide guidance to pet owners regarding animal care, treatment plans, preventive medicine, and end-of-life decisions
  • Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely medical records in our cloud-based practice management system
  • Provide compassionate euthanasia and support to clients through end-of-life care
  • Mentor, support, and delegate effectively to Registered Veterinary Technicians and support staff
  • Communicate with referral centres, specialists, and emergency hospitals to coordinate continuity of care
  • Build and maintain continuing relationships with our established client base
  • Contribute to clinic protocols, standards of care, and the ongoing development of our practice
  • Uphold the standards and requirements of the NBVMA and practise medicine in accordance with professional and ethical guidelines

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive compensation offered based on experience
  • Full-time schedule to be determined collaboratively (option of a 4 or 5-day work week)
  • No after-hours emergency on-call
  • Medical benefits
  • Professional liability insurance coverage
  • Annual licensing and association dues coverage, CE compensation and opportunities for professional development
  • 3 sets of company scrubs to start and then one per year
  • Employee discounts on veterinary products and food
  • 4 weeks of paid vacation
  • Paid sick days (5 per calendar year)
  • Opportunity to work in a supportive, encouraging work environment
  • State-of-the-art equipment and a commitment to the highest standards of care

Pay: $100,000.00-$120,000.00 per year

Benefits: On-site parking
