ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT: The Manager, Maintenance & Asset Planning is responsible for leading the planning, coordination, and execution of maintenance operations and enterprise asset management programs across the divisions.

This role oversees preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards.

By leading maintenance teams, leveraging asset management systems and data, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, the position supports operational excellence, optimizes asset performance, minimizes downtime, and ensures projects are delivered on time and within budget.

The Manager drives continuous improvement while aligning resources, schedules, and priorities to support informed decision-making and organizational objectives.

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee the daily operations of the Maintenance Group, including staffing, scheduling, work prioritization, and coordination of work assignments across operational shifts to ensure timely project completion and effective service delivery.

Respond to emergency situations affecting equipment and facilities, coordinating with Facilities and stakeholders to minimize operational disruptions and ensure timely resolution.

Manage maintenance projects, contractors, service providers, and vendor relationships, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with procurement requirements.

Ensure compliance with Health and Safety policies, maintenance protocols, regulatory requirements, and organizational procedures while fostering a safe and respectful work environment.

Develop, implement, and oversee predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance programs through the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system to reduce downtime, improve asset reliability, and support cost-effective asset management.

Manage and optimize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (KACE) and Enterprise Asset Management system, ensuring timely work order processing, accurate records, effective correspondence, and closure of maintenance activities.

Manage and oversee maintenance planning activities, including preventative maintenance schedules, inspections, asset-based job plans, work packages, safety requirements, hazard identification, and contractor support.

Collaborate with supervisors, division leaders, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure maintenance plans align with operational requirements and work is coordinated efficiently.

Provide training, guidance, and support on maintenance planning best practices, maintenance procedures, and Enterprise Asset Management processes.

Oversee data quality, data entry, tracking, analysis, and data cleansing activities to support accurate maintenance planning, asset management, and decision-making.

Monitor and report on maintenance planning, scheduling, and asset performance KPIs, providing insights and recommendations to support operational and strategic decision-making.

Lead and manage the Rail EAM Maintenance Planning team, including hiring, performance management, employee development, succession planning, and other human resources responsibilities.

Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging operational excellence, process enhancement, teamwork, and accountability.

Collaborate with Corporate Facilities and the Asset Management Office to support enterprise-wide asset management initiatives and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.

Contribute to the development and updating of Asset Management Plans, Capital Plans, and departmental strategic, tactical, and operational plans.

REQUIREMENTS: University Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Information Technology, Industrial Management, or a related technical field Relevant trade certification (preferred), such as Mechanic, Electrician, Railway Car Technician, Millwright, or an equivalent skilled trade Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in industrial, manufacturing, transportation, railway, maintenance, or asset management environments, including: Planning, scheduling, prioritizing, and coordinating maintenance activities using established work management processes Leading, supervising, coaching, and developing employees and contractors in a unionized environment Utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems to support maintenance planning, asset management, work order management, and performance monitoring Developing and implementing preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs to improve asset reliability, optimize performance, and minimize downtime Applying root cause analysis (RCA), reliability-centered maintenance principles, and continuous improvement methodologies to resolve operational challenges and improve efficiencies Interpreting and applying collective agreement provisions Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and manufacturer specifications Proven experience applying health and safety legislation, regulations, standards, and best practices within an operational environment Experience managing maintenance and capital projects, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, contractor management, and project execution Advanced computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, HxGN EAM, track inspection software, and other maintenance management systems Strong knowledge of enterprise asset management, maintenance planning and scheduling, asset reliability, and work management practices Demonstrated leadership and performance management skills, with the ability to build high-performing teams and foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building, collaboration, and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively engage employees, contractors, vendors, and stakeholders at all levels Strong planning, organizational, time management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to lead and adapt to change Valid Driver's License Commitment to health and safety APPLICATION PROCESS: The successful candidate will need to pass the following clearances: criminal record check, employment references and education verification.
