The Risk Management Division (RMD) operates Minnesota state government’s self-insurance program, along with the state workers’ compensation and safety program. The division also insures the state’s assets and provides property and casualty coverage. The Workers Comp (WC) unit takes a proactive approach with a focus on safety and loss control efforts that strive to minimize the incidence of injuries, accidents, and other damages and losses.

We are seeking a WC Supervisor 2 to plan, direct, supervise, and manage the financial and administrative activities of the WC Claims Administration to ensure that claims accepted, denied, settled, paid, and recovered are in compliance with Minnesota Workers' Compensation laws; protect the assets of the State Compensation Revolving Fund in these areas of responsibility; and ensure the proper utilization of resources within the WC work unit. Supervisory responsibilities consist of overseeing and managing about 14 WC Claims Adjusters. This position also assists the WC Claims Manager in meeting responsibilities so that unit activities continue without interruption.

This position is eligible for up to a 50% hybrid telework arrangement. With a telework arrangement, additional onsite attendance may be required for team meetings or as requested by management to meet business needs. Completion of a telework agreement will be required. Minimum Qualifications The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position. Only applicants whose application materials clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for the position.

Four (4) years of experience performing, leading, and/or consulting on workers' compensation claims management for a self-insured employer, third party claims administrator, insurance carrier, occupational/rehabilitation provider, governmental employer, or similar environment. Workers' compensation claims management experience would include handling of claims involving time loss from work and other indemnity-related claims, along with applying laws and case laws to claims.

Experience in a supervisory, project manager, or team lead position that includes assigning, coaching, training, reporting on the work activities of others, and/or engaging in performance management-based conversations.

Knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP) and financial management to monitor budgetary activities.

Effective interpersonal, human relations, and communication skills to work with a variety of individuals at all levels and with varying backgrounds and skills.

Ability to handle a large volume of work while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.

Computing experience for storage and retrieval of information necessary to organize and analyze data.

Preferred Qualifications

Education and/or training in a medical or legal profession.

Medical or legal terminology gained through training or experience.

Experience with subrogation requirements, processes, and responsibilities.

Experience working for federal, state, municipal, or tribal governments/organizations.

Understanding of state and agency procedures in accounting.

Experience training others (internal and external), facilitating meetings, making presentations, and contributing to conflict management/resolution.

Experience with the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act.
