Job description

The Law Society of Alberta (Law Society) regulates the legal profession in the public interest. In alignment with the Law Society’s vision, mission, and strategic plan, the Applications and Information (A&I) department provides development and operational support in the areas of business applications, information governance and management, data reporting and analytics, project management, process improvement and organizational change management. As a key member of the A&I team, the Senior Data Analyst provides advanced data analytics, reporting and business analysis support across multiple departments, including Trust Safety, Finance, Conduct, Education, Governance and other business areas. This role coordinates and leads data analytics work, translates business needs into reporting solutions and dashboards, and acts as a key liaison between departmental business contacts and the A&I Data Analytics team. Success in this position requires advanced business analysis and data analytics skills, strong communication and project coordination abilities, strategic thinking, and the ability to identify patterns in data that support improved decision-making. The Senior Data Analyst must be able to manage competing priorities, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and support the development of increasingly complex analytics solutions. The Senior Data Analyst must be able to manage competing priorities, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and support the development of increasingly complex analytics solutions. Key Responsibilities

Coordinate and lead data analytics work across multiple departments, including Trust Safety, Finance, Conduct, Education, Governance and other business areas. Coordinate data analytics projects, including the development of project schedules, scope, timelines and deliverables to support successful and timely completion. Lead the development of requirements documentation and testing for new reporting solutions, dashboards and data analytics products. Act as a key business contact for departments requiring data analytics support, reporting solutions or dashboard enhancements. Educate business area staff on how reports and dashboards work, including how data is interpreted and presented in reporting outputs. Act as the primary liaison between business area contacts, including staff, managers and ELT members, and the A&I Data Analytics team regarding data analytics requirements and solution needs. Collaborate with the Data Scientist or Architect on complex or advanced analytics solutions across multiple departments and business areas. Coordinate and work with internal and external stakeholders, including the profession, in support of Trust Safety-related data analytics work. Identify solutions, patterns and trends in data to enhance business decision-making and support operational improvements. Translate business needs into technical solutions, designs and reporting requirements in collaboration with A&I and business stakeholders. Perform other related duties and projects as assigned. Qualifications

Post-secondary education in Business, Commerce, Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Analysis or a related field. Certification in data analytics or business analysis, or actively working toward certification, is preferred. Advanced business analysis and data analytics skills, including the ability to interpret data, identify patterns and recommend solutions that enhance decision-making. Demonstrated experience with data reporting, visualizations, dashboards and reporting tools. In-depth understanding of data analytics tools and reporting tools, with knowledge of SQL. Experience coordinating projects and developing more advanced project leadership and project management skillsets. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain reporting outputs, data interpretation and dashboard functionality to business users. Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions, reporting designs and requirements documentation. Strategic thinking skills and the ability to prioritize and manage competing timelines, projects and business needs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, managers, ELT members, internal teams and external stakeholders. Interest in, or experience gaining knowledge of, emerging data analytics solutions and technologies such as Microsoft Dataverse and Microsoft OneLake. Knowledge of regulatory environments, Trust Safety work or legal profession-related data would be considered an asset. About the Law Society of Alberta
