August 4, 2026M.A.S.S. NOTICE OF VACANCYPosition: Supervisor- Health & Safety Salary Range: Band 8: $100,743.00 – $120,136.00Location: J.W. Singleton Education Centre Human Resources - Employee Health, Safety & Well-Being DepartmentWork Schedule: 35 hours/week, 12 months/yearEffective Date: Immediately Position Summary: Reporting to the Manager, Employee Health, Safety & Well-being, the Health & Safety Supervisor supports the implementation and coordination of the Board's Health and Safety Program across multiple locations through supervision of the Health and Safety Officers, WSIB Administrators, and Health and Safety Administrator. The role provides operational guidance in the delivery of accident prevention and safety awareness initiatives and promotes a proactive safety culture while supporting compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Ontario) and other applicable legislation. Working collaboratively with administrators, staff, and Joint Health and Safety Committee Members, the Supervisor supports hazard identification, regulatory compliance, and the effective functioning of the internal responsibility system. Key Responsibilities: Acts as the leader of the team, supporting, training, and guiding Direct supervision of the Health & Safety team Ensuring that the team works as one cohesive unit, resolving any conflicts or issues that arise Responsible for coaching, performance appraisal and progressive discipline of the Health & Safety teamProgram Support and ImplementationIdentifies, develops, and implements health and safety program elements based on legislative requirements and industry best practicesEnsures all Health and Safety activities, practices, and processes comply with applicable legislation, Board policies, administrative procedures, industry standards, and best practicesMaintains documentation required for regulatory compliance, regulatory investigations,and/or legal proceedingsProvides guidance and technical expertise on opportunities for process and service improvements, including analyzing gaps in effectiveness and implementing initiatives based on best practiceLiaises with managers, supervisors, Instructional Program Leads, employees and external agencies to ensure compliance with legislative requirementsLiaises with government authorities regarding health and safety issues and concerns such as accidents, fire, water and public health to ensure compliance with mandatory regulationsParticipates in internal subcommittees and external safety groups [e.g., Public Services Health and Safety Association (PSHSA), Regional Fire Safety, Ontario Association of School Business Officials (OASBO)]Investigation and ComplianceOversees workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and auditsPrepares written recommendations for corrective and preventive actionsInvestigates accidents, critical injuries, work refusals, work stoppages, health-related complaints, occupational illnesses, curriculum-based safety concerns, and hazardous materials issues including root cause analysisSupport people leaders in resolving compliance matters and participates in meetings with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills DevelopmentAdvisory and Health and Safety ResourceProvides technical guidance to administrators, staff, and Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) members to ensure legal obligations are met and in the dispute resolution processRespond to concerns, complaints, and action items raised by JHSC members and other stakeholdersMaintains current knowledge of the OH&S legislation, regulatory changes, emerging trends, and industry standards and the ability to interpret and apply all relevant legislationTraining and EducationDirects the development of health and safety training modules for e-learning or classroom instruction and ensures mandatory training requirements are metOversees training to JHSC members, including Basic Certification, and collaborates with Health and Safety Officers to evaluate training effectivenessOversees safety training for staff on the use of equipment, personal protective equipment, emergency procedures, and curriculum-based hazardsResearch, Analysis, and ReportingProvide evidence-based guidance based on legislation, internal policies, and external and external standards (e.g., ISO, ANSI, CSA)Oversee the development of inspection forms, checklists, reporting tools, and other resources to support consistent and effective health and safety practicesAdvise on curriculum safety, hazardous materials, and occupational health concernsAnalyzes injury, incident, and inspection data to identify trends, areas of concern, opportunities for preventive action, and cost mitigationAnalyzes direct and indirect costs associated with WSIB-related claims and makes recommendations related to liability Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Occupational Hygiene, Environmental Health, or a related discipline Minimum of 4 years related work experiencePreferred 5 years of experience working in the education sector and/or unionized environmentA Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation or working towards a designationExperience conducting occupational hygiene assessments, identifying workplace hazards, implementing control measures, and investigating reporting accidents Strong knowledge of legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Ontario), Building Code, Fire Code and Health Protection and Promotion ActFamiliarity with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development investigations and reporting requirementsExperience managing work refusals, inspections, and follow-up actions Demonstrated skill in providing guidance and support to Joint Health and Safety CommitteesAbility to plan, prepare, and deliver workplace safety training sessionsExcellent organizational, written, interpersonal time management and presentation skillsApplications, along with your
