Job description

The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Master to join our Simulator Training Centre (STC) team as a Shore Captain – Bridge Simulation Training. In this role, you will play a key part in developing and delivering high-quality bridge simulation training that supports safe, consistent, and best-practice navigation across the fleet.

The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Master to join our Simulator Training Centre (STC) team as a Shore Captain – Bridge Simulation Training. In this role, you will play a key part in developing and delivering high-quality bridge simulation training that supports safe, consistent, and best-practice navigation across the fleet.

You will work directly with Masters and deck officers to strengthen bridge team performance through coaching, assessment, and structured learning. This is a hands‑on role where your operational expertise will directly inform training design, delivery, and continuous improvement.

The Role

Delivering and supporting bridge simulation training

Coaching, mentoring and assessing Masters and deck officers

Gathering and analyzing bridge officer learning requirements

Developing, modifying and maintaining instructional resources and curriculum

Supporting navigation assessments; coordinating daily delivery of learning events; maintaining training, trainee development and simulator records

Supporting the STC quality management system

Contributing to navigation policy updates

Managing simulator assets and related contracts

Collaborating with internal stakeholders and external vendors

Supporting budget administration

Promoting continuous improvement of the STC program.

Deliver and support bridge simulation training

What You Bring To The Team Education & Certification

Transport Canada Master’s Certificate or equivalent professional certification as a Master

Degree or diploma in Nautical Sciences, Engineering, Management, Education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and operational marine experience

Adult education or instructor certification is required or strongly preferred

Demonstrated capability in instructional design, facilitation, coaching, and adult learning principles

Experience

Significant operational marine experience (approximately 10+ years at sea)

4–6 years in an operational leadership role (e.g., Officer, Chief Officer)

1–3 years in command as Master or equivalent

Experience leading teams, programs, budgets, or operational projects

Experience in bridge team operations, navigation policy, or simulator-based training is an asset

Prior instructional or facilitation experience is preferred

Competencies & Attributes

Strong operational judgment and decision-making in complex marine environments

Credibility and confidence working with experienced Masters and deck officers

Ability to coach, mentor, and provide constructive, practical feedback

Excellent communication and influencing skills across all levels of the organization

Analytical thinking and problem-solving, with the ability to translate operational needs into training solutions

Comfort working collaboratively across departments and with external vendors

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain detailed records

Commitment to quality, continuous improvement, and professional standards

Tact, professionalism, and sound judgment in a learning and assessment environment

Additional Information The target salary range: $135,600-$150,700 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity.
