The Discipline Lead – MEP will act as a specialist expert on projects located in British Columbia and potentially other western Canadian provinces. The role spans projects under development (pre‑construction and tendering) and projects under construction. The Specialist collaborates closely with local MEP operations across all activities.

What you will do

Design Development during the proposal phase

  • Review all documents provided by the client during the proposal phase and maintain full knowledge of the scope.
  • Verify the scope of the consultant responsible for the design of the discipline and identify any scope gaps.
  • With the consultant, establish the design strategy and guidelines for the project from the outset.
  • Contribute to the discussion of the procurement strategy set by the construction team.
  • Collaborate with the consultant and the selected specialty subcontractor to develop efficient concepts and alternatives that comply with the client’s requirements.
  • Optimize the design within the established objectives to ensure constructability and resolve discrepancies between design and construction.
  • Participate in design meetings with the project team as needed.
  • Attend discipline‑specific meetings with operations, the consultant, and the specialty subcontractor.
  • Work with the Design Manager to keep them informed of developments with the consultant.
  • Verify and comment on the compliance matrix for the discipline.
  • Ensure effective communication and information transfer between the consultant and the construction team, especially with the specialty subcontractor.
  • Actively participate in the estimation process to develop the most efficient solutions.
  • Assist the estimation team in preparing the project budget by clarifying design intent and supporting alternate material compliance.
  • Take part in design sessions with the client via Requests for Information (RFIs) to clarify technical questions.
  • Develop and implement design review procedures to ensure quality, conformity to client requirements, and applicable norms.
  • Identify risks and propose mitigation measures related to the discipline.
  • Review and validate drawings and technical documents before official issuance for compliance.

Project implementation

  • Maintain design management duties and collaborate with the design team until finalization, ensuring a timely transition to the construction team.
  • Participate in negotiations with the specialty subcontractor for contract terms and pricing.
  • Support the construction team in project optimization and problem resolution.
  • Carry out tasks agreed upon with the Project Director regarding construction or commissioning, whether through factory or site tests.

This role could be for you if you have

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (building or related) or a master’s degree specializing in building mechanical systems.
  • Membership in a professional regulating body.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience, including at least 10 years in a design role within the discipline.
  • Recognition as an expert in your discipline.
  • Experience with building projects that involve architectural complexities, mechanical, electrical, and other sophisticated systems, delivered through Design & Build, P3, or other alternative contractual modes.
  • Experience in establishing concepts and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Both design experience from consultant firms and construction experience from general or specialized contractors is considered an asset.
  • Initiative, innovation, discipline, and leadership in planning and developing concepts.
  • Familiarity with Building Information Modeling – Virtual Design Construction (BIM‑VDC) models.
  • A strong analytical mind, ability to synthesize information, sound judgment, and effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Efficient collaboration with all team members, partners, and clients.
  • Comfortable with rapid‑changing, stressful environments.
  • A solution‑oriented mindset and the ability to mobilize people.
  • French language skills are considered an asset.

Benefits

  • RRSP with up to 5% employer matching
  • Hybrid work model for corporate roles
  • Employee stock ownership program
  • Career growth through real development opportunities
  • Transit pass reimbursement
  • Minimum 4 weeks of vacation from day one
