Learning Strategies Teacher - Middle School

First Year Probationary Role - Starting August 31, 2026 Part-time - 60% FTE An Opportunity to Join SMLS Role Overview To support our vision of empowered young women challenging and transforming the world, we are currently seeking a Middle School Learning Strategies Teacher to help support our Middle School students. This individual will be responsible for supporting both the academic and social/emotional needs of students and encouraging students to become self‑advocates for their learning. The Learning Strategies Teacher will also work with classroom teachers with specific strategies to differentiate instruction and assessment. This vacancy is due to a replacement position. The successful candidate is enthusiastic, articulate and a creative teacher who communicates with ease and confidence with all stakeholders (i.e. other teachers, students, parents, etc). The candidate will be a part of an inclusive learning community that allows learners to thrive and prosper. The candidate will be comfortable engaging in innovative and diverse programming. Your Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Demonstrated experience assisting classroom teachers in providing appropriate accommodations to meet the needs of the students

Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of an IEP in consultation with the Middle School Principal, classroom teachers, parents, students, and community resources

Knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials designed with the neurodiversity of students in mind

Demonstrated ability to carry out a variety of assessments, including classroom observation, curriculum‑based assessment and diagnostic teaching methods

Participate in integrated team meetings (e.g. Student Success, Wellbeing) to ensure students are fully supported

Desire to seek opportunities that go above and beyond to contribute to a dynamic academic and co‑curricular learning environment

Provide administrative support and assist with other duties as required

SMLS' culture is highly collaborative and community‑oriented. All staff are expected to participate fully in the life of the school, including attending school events which may occur on evenings or weekends from time to time (faculty participation in co‑curriculars is essential).

Employees are expected to undertake additional responsibilities as reasonably assigned, consistent with the scope and level of the role.

While a teacher's current teaching assignment is based on the School's present operational and educational needs, teaching assignments are subject to change from time to time. As the needs of the School, its students, enrolment, programming, and staffing requirements evolve, you may be assigned to teach different grades, subjects, courses, or programs for which you are qualified and competent to teach. Any such changes will be made reasonably, and every effort will be made to provide advance notice and appropriate training where required.

Compensation & Terms Annual compensation is based on our Faculty Salary Grid, which factors in qualifications and up to 12 years of teaching experience:

Entry to 6 Years: $62,436 – $95,210

Over 6 Years: $90,962 – $123,876

For faculty, the Faculty Salary Grid includes grid steps that recognize up to 12 years of qualifying teaching experience. SMLS is also a member of the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (OTPP).
