Job Summary

The Physician Quality Leader (PQL) role is an exciting medical leadership opportunity to provide direction to physicians and other healthcare providers on quality and patient safety initiatives. The primary goal is improving quality and supporting the reduction of medical/health care errors that contribute to adverse patient outcomes at each acute care site and within programs and networks. In this role, you will work with fellow physician leaders and other clinical staff to promote physician engagement and build capacity for quality improvement. You will also collaborate with senior leadership and staff in identifying evidence-based strategies to ensure best practices implementation at the site, within programs and networks.

Overview:

The Physician Quality Leader (PQL) - Oncology is a physician leader committed to fostering a culture of safety and providing clinical leadership to support quality improvement, patient safety, and advancement of high quality, evidence informed cancer care across Fraser Health Oncology Services. This role involves collaboration with the Clinical Quality and Patient Safety Department, senior leadership, department heads, regional leaders, and support systems. The position reports to the Executive Medical Director (EMD), Quality and Patient Safety, and is part of the leadership team, which includes the Regional Medical Director/Regional Department Head, Local Department Heads, and other medical leads.

Major Responsibilities For The Role

  • Provide physician leadership to advance strategic quality improvement and patient safety initiatives aligned with Fraser Health Oncology priorities.
  • Engage Oncology physicians and interdisciplinary teams to promote the adoption of evidence informed practices, standardization of care, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Support the implementation, spread, and sustainability of quality improvement initiatives through education, coaching, and knowledge translation.
  • Collaborate with clinical and operational leaders to identify opportunities for improvement using quality, safety, and patient experience data.
  • Monitor implementation progress, evaluate outcomes, and contribute to the dissemination of lessons learned and leading practices across Fraser Health Oncology Services.
  • Participate in regional quality, patient safety, and governance forums as appropriate to support alignment and shared learning.

Work Schedule: The hours are flexible - evening meetings and travel may be required.

Term: One year.

Key Deliverables

  • Develop a project charter that outlines the initiative's aim, scope, objectives, measures, and implementation plan.
  • Establish process, outcome, and balancing measures to evaluate the impact and sustainability of the initiative.
  • Provide regular progress updates to the Executive Director and Executive/Regional/Site Medical Director, Clinical Quality & Patient Safety (CQPS), Oncology.
  • Present project findings and recommendations through appropriate Fraser Health Oncology governance structures.
  • Submit a final summary report outlining project outcomes, key learnings, sustainability plans, and recommendations for spread, where applicable.
