THE ROLE Physical Educators at the Royal Military College of Canada are responsible for delivering high-quality instruction across the five domains of the Physical Education Program-fitness, sport, aquatics, combatives, and wellness. They are expected to maintain a high personal level of fitness, provide expert guidance to students and staff, stay current with professional standards and trends, and contribute to the development of military leadership through fitness and sport. Physical Educators design and lead fitness sessions, develop appropriate training programs, and administer physical fitness evaluations for Officer Cadets and military personnel in accordance with departmental and institutional policies. In addition to their instructional responsibilities, each Physical Educator is assigned a coordinator portfolio that requires specialized subject-matter expertise. The Physical Educator serving as the Supplementary Physical Training (SPT) Coordinator oversees the planning, delivery, and continuous development of supplementary physical training opportunities for Officer Cadets requiring or seeking additional fitness support. This includes designing and delivering group training sessions and individualized training programs, providing one-on-one coaching, expanding access to training opportunities and fitness facilities across campus, supporting varsity teams and departmental programs with physical training expertise, and managing the procurement, maintenance, and inventory of equipment required for supplementary physical training. QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED Education, Certifications and Licenses Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Sciences, or in a related field AND some years of experience in a related field Current Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP) certification Current CPR and Basic First Aid qualifications Current National Lifeguard Service Certificate (NLS) qualifications Experience In teaching physical education In sports administration In applying policies, procedures and regulations In evaluating physical fitness In fitness program counseling In using software for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, email and Internet browsing Competencies Client focus, organizational knowledge, communication, innovation, teamwork and leadership.
