Studio's next chapter takes it into gaming, with an ambitious vision for how real-time 3D experiences are created, shared, and played on the web.As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Unity Studio team, you will own the cloud services behind the product: real-time multi-user collaboration, build and publishing pipelines, and the platform APIs the editor is built on. You will join a fast-moving, cross-functional team where your work ships quickly and directly shapes the product.You will collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and product managers from day one. As a senior member of the team, you will help set the technical direction, raise the engineering bar, and mentor others as the team grows.What you'll be doingDesign, build, and operate the backend services behind real-time collaborative editing, game publishing, and content deliveryOwn systems end-to-end - from design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and running them in productionEvolve how the platform scales - stateful real-time workloads, session routing, and service fleets in a cloud-native environmentDefine the APIs and service contracts that the editor and partner teams build againstStrengthen our infrastructure and delivery practices - infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and automated deploymentWork closely with product and design to turn ambiguous problems into shipped, reliable featuresChampion reliability and observability, and help the team respond to and learn from production issuesMentor other engineers and raise quality across the team through code review and design feedbackWhat we're looking forSubstantial professional experience designing, building, and operating backend services in productionStrong proficiency in one or more modern backend languages, and the flexibility to work across severalSolid grounding in distributed systems - API design, data persistence, state management, and the trade-offs between themHands-on experience with cloud platforms and containerized, orchestrated deploymentsA track record of owning services in production, including monitoring, debugging, and incident responsePragmatism and comfort with ambiguity - you ship iteratively and make sensible trade-offs under real deadlinesClear communication and easy collaboration with both technical and non-technical colleaguesYou might also haveExperience with real-time or multiplayer systems - WebSockets, collaborative editing, or state synchronizationExperience with the Unity Engine or other interactive 3D technologyExperience building backend services for games or interactive mediaAdditional informationRelocation support is not available for this positionWork visa/immigration sponsorship is not available for this positionBase Salary Range: We determine the base salary range for this role based on your primary work location:UK:Zone A: £75,400 – £113,000 GBP grossZone B: £86,200 – £129,400 GBP grossCanada:Zone A: $125,300 – $175,300 CAD grossZone B: $135,400 – $203,000 CAD grossThis range reflects the anticipated base salary for this position. Beyond base salary, this role may be eligible for equity awards and participation in our company incentive plans (such as annual discretionary bonuses or sales commissions).
