The Manager, Research Networks plays a central role in the day to day management of research networks and special projects at the Dr. Gilles Arcand Centre for Health Equity. This position is responsible for the effective planning, implementation, and ongoing management of interdisciplinary networks that advance health equity through community-engaged and evidence-informed research. The Manager will facilitate collaboration among researchers, trainees, community, and institutional partners, ensuring that networks and projects progress efficiently, meet funding requirements, and generate meaningful impact.

Responsibilities

  • Provides operational leadership in setting goals, identifying priorities and expert-level guidance for research networks across the Arcand Centre.
  • Participates in the creation of operational plans for research networks, with timelines, workplans, and deliverables, while also identifying and mitigating potential risks and administrative challenges for the Arcand Centre.
  • Works closely with the Centre Director, Principal Investigators (PIs), Network Leads and teams to monitor project progress and ensure milestones, reporting deadlines, and funding requirements are met.
  • Provides supervision of Arcand Centre staff, as needed, on Network and project related activities
  • Provides day-to-day direction to research staff including and responsible for recruitment, supervision, performance expectations and deliverables, and ensures that appropriate training and development is provided.
  • As a member of the Arcand Centre management team, contributes to the identification and implementation of strategic planning activities. Contributes to the development of Centre and network policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Assists with the evaluation activities of networks and the preparation of annual reports and fiscal reports.
  • Provides oversight of communication and partnerships among researchers, community organizations, policymakers, and trainees within networks and priority projects.
  • Provides leadership and expertise with knowledge sharing and cross collaboration within and across networks and priority projects.
  • Manages the implementation of a communication plan to positively publicize Centre Networks. This includes the coordination of communications about publications, presentations and activities.
  • Fosters strong relationships with partners involved in health equity initiatives regionally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Acts as a resource to networks in the preparation of grant applications, progress reports, and advises on research policy requirements.
  • Works with PIs and network leads to track budgets and coordinate with network staff on financial monitoring and reporting.
  • Provides oversight with respect to space requirements, equipment, supply procurement, and data compliance for Research Networks’ needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education

  • A Master’s degree in business administration, public health, health sciences, social sciences or a related field from a recognized university with Canadian accreditation or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

CERTIFICATIONS/DESIGNATIONS

  • Project Management Certificate is considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience is required
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Familiarity with grant funding processes, research compliance and reporting requirements
  • Demonstrated project management experience working in an environment coordinating multi-site, multi-stakeholder projects
  • Experience working in the public sector and/or an academic environment an asset
  • Experience working in a unionized environment.
  • Advanced experience in planning, organizing and directing activities.
  • Ability to travel across Northern Ontario. A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Good knowledge of university structure, policies and procedures considered an asset.
  • Experience with NOSM University’s reporting systems is an asset.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for communicating with service providers, community partners, and faculty, as well as assisting in drafting correspondence, reports, proposals, and related documents.
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands, be well organized and possess very good planning skills to meet deadlines.
  • Must be capable of working independently and as part of a team as required.
  • Excellent knowledge of common computer software packages (e.g., Microsoft Word and Excel) and ability to learn and utilize project-related software as required. Must have excellent general computer skills with an ability to use and contribute to the development of electronic systems for managing information.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work autonomously and use good judgement when making decisions.

Language

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
  • French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset
