Job description

Beacon is seeking an experienced Fluvial Geomorphologist to join its Fluvial Geomorphology team. This role will be based out of the Markham or the Guelph office with a hybrid work arrangement. The Fluvial Geomorphologist will serve as a technical specialist and project lead, overseeing geomorphic assessments, natural channel design, erosion threshold evaluations, meanderbelt assessments, and outfall design projects. The role will also involve supporting infrastructure and land development projects. The successful candidate will manage project scope, budgets and schedules, liaise with clients, municipalities, conservation authorities and multidisciplinary project teams, and provide technical guidance to support high-quality project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • ·Plan, coordinate, and complete field investigations to characterize watercourse conditions, channel form, bank stability, sediment conditions, and erosion processes.
  • ·Process and review field data with appropriate quality control and quality assurance procedures.
  • ·Analyze and integrate geomorphic to support multidisciplinary environmental and infrastructure projects.
  • ·Complete meanderbelt width assessments, erosion hazard delineations, and geomorphic constraint analyses for planning, design, and approvals.
  • ·Develop and review natural channel design concepts, drawings, restoration plans, and erosion mitigation measures in support of environmental and infrastructure projects.
  • ·Prepare and review proposals, technical memoranda, design briefs, monitoring reports, and geomorphic assessment reports.
  • ·Support permitting and approvals by preparing technical documentation and coordinating with municipalities, conservation authorities, and regulatory agencies.
  • ·Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, deliverables, and technical quality for fluvial geomorphology assignments.
  • ·Collaborate with Beacon's ecology and landscape restoration teams to provide integrated watercourse and natural heritage solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • ·Minimum of 8 years of consulting experience in fluvial geomorphology, river restoration or water resources.
  • ·Demonstrated experience leading fluvial geomorphology assessments, including geomorphic characterization, erosion hazard assessments and meanderbelt assessments.
  • ·Strong technical experience with natural channel design, stream restoration, channel rehabilitation, and design input for erosion control and habitat enhancement projects.
  • ·Experience assessing stormwater outfalls, including erosion risk evaluation, and development of outlet-specific design and mitigation recommendations.
  • ·Experience designing and leading field programs, including geomorphic surveys, rapid assessments, sediment characterization, bankfull channel measurements, erosion monitoring, and post-construction monitoring.
  • ·Experience preparing and reviewing technical reports, including geomorphic hazard assessments, meanderbelt assessments, erosion threshold studies, and natural channel design reports.
  • ·Project management experience including scope development, budgets, schedules, technical quality control, client communication, and coordination of multidisciplinary teams.
  • ·Working knowledge of relevant municipal, conservation authority, provincial, and federal requirements related to watercourses, erosion hazards, natural hazards, permitting, and approvals.
  • ·Ability to liaise with clients, municipal staff, conservation authorities, regulatory agencies, engineers, ecologists, planners, and contractors.
  • ·Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with GIS, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, hydraulic modelling outputs, survey data, RTK GPS, or Total Station equipment would be an asset.
  • ·Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Education

  • ·Bachelor's degree in physical geography, earth sciences, water resources engineering, or an equivalent program.

Salary :

$80,000.00-$113,000.00 per year

Additional Qualifications That Would Be an Asset

  • ·Registered as a G.I.T. or P.Geo., or eligible for membership with the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario, would be considered an asset.
  • ·Certification as an Inspector of Erosion and Sediment Control (Can-CISEC).
  • ·Working knowledge of AutoCAD LDD/Civil 3D software.
  • ·Experience using RTK GPS technology and Total Station survey equipment.
