Health Services Long Term Care

Status: 1 Contract Full Time (13 Months Parental Leave Coverage)

Hiring Range: $105754.00 $118974.00 per annum (plus comprehensive benefits where applicable)

Work Mode: Onsite

Location: Malton Village Long Term Care Centre 7075 Rexwood Road Mississauga

Hours of Work:35 hours per week. Must be available for on-call weekends and evenings on a rotational basis

As a Supervisor within our Butterfly Home you will be an enthusiastic and energetic leader in the adoption of the Butterfly Model of Dementia Care. You provide positive visible and supportive leadership to staff.


You will role model person-centred care of those living with dementia and will support and lead staff in developing specialist skills in dementia care.

You will also manage all aspects of the Activation and Volunteer Services department including social recreation restorative spiritual volunteer therapeutic and rehabilitation programs and aspects of the business office. This includes supervising staff volunteers and students contract services and liaising with relevant community agencies.

What Youll Do:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity equity and inclusion through continuous development modeling inclusive behaviors and proactively managing bias
  • Develop departmental goals and objectives focused on person-centred care approaches
  • Coach and mentor departmental staff to support ongoing learning and development
  • Actively participates in program delivery and monitors the effectiveness of all operational activities
  • Oversee the business office which includes administrative staff. This includes ensuring that reception administrative duties and financial control processes are carried out completely and accurately
  • Accountable for ensuring financial control responsibilities are conducted and completed accurately and on-time by Financial Control Clerk as per Ministry standards and Regional guidelines
  • Ensure completion processing and maintenance of the financial and statistical records pertaining to both residents and Adult Day Services clients including: Resident admission agreements Resident accommodation fees and ADS program billing collection and monthly reconciliation resident trust accounts annual rate reduction process as per MOHLTC standards
  • Plan implement and evaluate diversified and comprehensive activation programs and services to meet the individual physical cognitive social emotional and spiritual needs of the residents
  • Oversee contracted services including hairdressing music therapy art therapy horticulture therapy physiotherapy occupational therapy and chaplaincy
  • Facilitate and coordinate assessments delivery and evaluation of assistive mobility devices including quarterly cleaning clinics documentation and ongoing communication with SDM/POA
  • Monitor resident satisfaction with programs and services and assist in resolving concerns and complaints at both an individual and systemic perspective
  • Supervise the facilitation of Residents Council and Family Council liaises between Councils and the centre to plan implement and evaluate programs
  • Responsible for liaison with community outreach agencies that provides volunteers and programs that benefit the needs of a specific population in our Centres such examples are CNIB MS Society Friendly Visiting Program
  • Liaison with community-based agencies Churches and local schools
  • Manage fiscal resources by monitoring expenditures allocating funds making cost savings and operational improvement recommendations and developing the annual department budget and donations account
  • Work with the Business Support Supervisor (Central Business Support Unit - CBSU) to implement quality and procedural improvements required as a result of CBSU regional petty cash and resident trust account audits and personnel and resident file audits
  • Ongoing development collection implementation and evaluation of the Continuous Quality Improvement Program for the Activation and Volunteer Services Department
  • Develop revise and implement policies and procedures related to the Activation and Volunteer Services department and Business Office

What Youll Need:

  • A degree in recreation and leisure studies therapeutic recreation kinesiology or other related field from a recognized university with specific courses in gerontology and activation techniques. Combination of education and experience may be considered
  • 3-5 years experience with seniors in an organized program long-term care or a health care setting
  • In-depth knowledge of principles and methods of program development implementation and promotion
  • Knowledge of the physical and psychosocial needs of seniors community resources and program techniques in recreation and restorative care
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation including the Long Term Care Homes Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) obtained directly from a police station (third-party background checks will not be accepted)

Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated people leader experience in recruiting training motivating supervising/directing staff and evaluating staff performance
  • Experience in orientation placement and supervision of volunteers
  • Strong communication and public relations skills to interact effectively with residents residents family staff peers volunteers students and community organizations and to participate in media and public speaking engagements as required
  • Polished organizational/planning and time management skills to coordinate staff volunteer and student schedules and resident programming
  • Problem solving expertise to identify problems/risks and determine appropriate solutions resolve resident/family concerns
  • Computer skills and knowledge of software programs to prepare reports and monitor department operations
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity equity and inclusion through continuous development modeling inclusive behaviors and proactively managing bias

Nice to Have:

  • Membership with Therapeutic Recreation for Ontario or Activity Professionals of Ontario
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials
  • Experience with financial management processes including billing invoicing petty cash administration and oversight of business office operations
