Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time, overseeing and evolving Ontario's electricity market, engaging with government, municipalities and Indigenous communities, and planning for Ontario's future electricity needs. This is a unionized position that falls within the Operations Readiness within the Markets and Reliability Business Unit.

The successful incumbent would be part of the Operations Readiness team who works within Operations and across the IESO to modernize the connection process through the implementation of an ambitious modernization Roadmap that will enhance processes, tools, training and governance in place today .The team champions effective project management, including change management, and has the primary responsibility for coordination of the Roadmap initiatives, including strategic planning and prioritization, tracking implementation progress and reporting to senior leadership and relevant external parties.

What you'll do

In this role, you'll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:

  • Assist in quality assurance and project management support in the coordination of changes affecting Operations. This includes assisting in coordinating changes and/or services involving one or more IESO groups or supporting the implementation of changes resulting from IESO projects.
  • Assist in managing master data (participant registered data and IESO created data), whether sourced externally or internally, that is used in processes and applications across the IESO, in a centralized registration system.
  • Assist in identifying, tracking, monitoring and notifying future changes to internal IESO groups.
  • Developing reports and reporting tools, analyzing issues, assisting in troubleshooting problems, and assisting in providing advice to improve operational effectiveness, ensuring full circle communication across IESO groups.
  • Receive assignment from Supervisor and/or Senior Advisor in detail related to assigned areas of work. Obtain necessary inputs or data and develop solutions to assigned tasks. Work with senior staff to produce necessary documentation to monitor and track, or to substantiate recommendations.Liaise with IESO and/or external staff on a one-to-one basis as required.
  • Assist in coordinating the registration system as a central library for all master data required by the IESO.
  • Work towards developing knowledge of market rules for the purpose of identifying the obligations.
  • Issue approval documentation to the participant and within the IESO on recommended decisions pertaining to participation or physical facilities.
  • Assist in coordinating internal and external customer projects and system changes.
  • Assist senior staff in representing Operations for items arising from IT change and release management.
  • Document process objectives, tasks, risks and controls in summary documentation (e.g. risk-control matrices).
  • Contribute to the enhancement/development of existing/new business processes, training packages or guides for participants.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining guides, procedures and training to support the processes consistent with business needs, market rules or other IESO-controlled documents.
  • Design reports and derive data insights on key team metrics.
  • Deliver new or revised IESO-controlled documents in accordance with the IESO baseline process. Maintain an inventory of Operations controlled documentation. Facilitate the baseline process for Operations documents.
  • Assist senior department staff as required on key tasks and assignments.
  • Perform other duties as required.

In a typical day, you willbe involved in supporting the coordination of operational and system changes across multiple IESO teams, ensuring that updates affecting different business areas are implemented smoothly and communicated effectively. The individual works closely with internal stakeholders and external market participants tomaintain master data within centralized systems,. Daily activities include responding to inquiries, troubleshooting data or registration issues, tracking project and system change initiatives, and preparing documentation, reports, and procedures, The role also involves building reports, analyzing information, monitoring compliance with market rules and business processes, and collaborating with subject matter experts to resolve customer issues and improve operational effectiveness. Throughout the day, the individual supports senior staff on key projects while helping maintain accurate records, process documentation, and training materials that support IESO operations.

Role Requirements

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • Requires academic training in business, commerce, information technology, or engineering to understand and apply the technical/business/legislative parameters governing the energy industry and marketplace.
  • Requires knowledge of communication techniques and theories at a level to develop comprehensive instructions, policies, practices, training and procedures for effective communication to customers in relation to the complaints, inquiries, advice and guidance on Market Participant requirements.
  • Knowledge of Tableau, Python, AI, and applications on the Microsoft Power Platform is a strongly preferred
  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the successful completion of 4-year university education or by having an equivalent level of experience.
  • Requires exposure to the overall power system operation through progressive training in an appropriate technical field.

Background experience will include:

  • Familiarity with power system and market operation, practices, and policies
  • Familiarity with IESO's markets, practices, policies, and market rules
  • Work experience with Tableau, Python, AI, and applications on the Microsoft Power Platform
  • Project Management
  • Requires excellent facility in written and oral communications, including the ability to prepare effective documentation, recommendations and reports.
  • Requires experience in dealing with customers (internal & external to the IESO) in a professional and service focused environment.Requires experience to effectively deal with complex inquiries as well as sensitive situations.Experience with diffusing irate callers by utilizing various soft skill techniques is essential.
  • Requires some experience in methods of discovery and or investigation, which involves having good analytical, reasoning and customer relations skills to resolve related problems or sensitive questions.
  • Requires experience in a customer service environment.Should be familiar with various customer-service related responsibilities, functions and their interrelationships, and with the contacts and sources of information involved.
  • Requires experience in data management and analytics, to report on the team metrics.
  • Requires project manager skills to successfully manage registration requirements.
  • A period of over 4 years and up to and including 6 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
