Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Nurse Practitioners, Strategy and Practice with accountabilities to the Vice President, Knowledge, Practice and Chief Nurse Executive, the Director provides direction and oversight of the Nurse Practitioner Clinical Leads and provides direction and oversight of Nurse Practitioners in collaboration with operations at clinical practice sites. The Director operationalizes Nurse Practitioner (NP) strategic planning, including ongoing role and practice development, implementation, and sustainability of the roles across Island Health; operationalizes the integration of clinical information with care environment requirements for practice by working toward collaborative solutions in a complex inter-professional environment. The Director provides oversight in operationalizing NP practice standards of care consistent with the values of the organization, clinical professional development standards, and representative of patient and family-centered care.

This leadership role collaborates with other directors and executive leadership to move initiatives forward, ensuring a commitment to best practice in all aspects of patient care across the care continuum. The Director liaises, consults, and collaborates with various internal and external healthcare professionals and organizations to support development, integration, and sustainability of NP roles.

The Director collaborates with operational leadership and other organizational interest holders to promote interprofessional practice and a culture of continuous quality improvement.

Travel is a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training And Experience

Master's degree in nursing as a Nurse Practitioner, plus 8 years' recent, related progressively clinical experience. In addition, a minimum of 2 years related formal clinical and/or operational healthcare leadership experience. Experience in leading professional practice, program management, change management, or strategy operationalization in a large health organization. Valid BC Driver's License.

Current registration in good standing with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as a Nurse Practitioner.

Maintains their clinical Nurse Practitioner practice in their area of expertise/interest and must be eligible and maintain membership as Island Health medical staff.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of management and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions and time constraints.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify variances and implement strategies that lead to desired outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and manage projects.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
The salary range for this position is $130,864 (min) to $163,579 (midpoint) to $188,116 (max) per annum (based on 1 FTE). Salary placement is between min and midpoint, based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity.NP Director provides strategic, professional, and operational leadership to support the integration, development, and sustainability of Nurse Practitioner (NP) roles across Island Health. Reporting to the Executive Director, NP Strategy and Practice, the role oversees NP Clinical Leads and provides operational oversight of NP practice and performance in collaboration with clinical operations. Key responsibilities include implementing NP strategic priorities; advancing NP role development, evaluation, and workforce planning; supporting recruitment, retention, and professional development; and ensuring NP practice aligns with organizational standards, quality expectations, and patient- and family-centered care principles. The Director works closely with executive, operational, medical, and professional practice leaders to promote interprofessional collaboration, quality improvement, and evidence-informed care delivery. The role also leads the development of policies, standards, and quality initiatives within the NP program, and represents Island Health in partnerships with internal and external interest holders to strengthen NP practice, improve access to care, and support health system priorities. This role may have an element of casual on-call work.This position offers the flexibility to work remotely, with occasional in-person meetings or travel requirements as needed.
