Role Description The Dispatcher – Inbound Assets is a full-time, on-site role based in Milton, ON, responsible for coordinating inbound trucks and assets to ensure efficient and timely freight movement. In this role, the dispatcher monitors inbound loads, assigns and adjusts driver schedules, and manages trailer and equipment availability to optimize utilization. The dispatcher communicates regularly with drivers, internal operations teams, and external partners to provide clear instructions, resolve issues, and maintain accurate status updates in dispatch and transportation management systems. Daily activities include tracking shipments, updating system records, addressing service disruptions, and supporting compliance with safety, security, and cross-border regulations. The role also involves contributing to continuous process improvement by identifying operational challenges and recommending practical solutions. Qualifications - Experience in transportation dispatch or logistics coordination, ideally within truckload and/or LTL operations and cross-border freight. - Strong planning and organizational skills, including load scheduling, route and asset planning, and time management under changing priorities. - Proficiency with dispatch, transportation management, or fleet management software, as well as basic skills in common office applications (e.g., Excel, email systems). - Effective communication skills for working with drivers, internal teams, and customers, including clear verbal communication and accurate documentation. - Solid problem-solving and decision-making abilities to handle service issues, delays, and equipment constraints in a fast-paced environment. - Knowledge of cross-border transportation requirements, safety standards, and regulatory compliance is an asset. - Ability to work on-site in Milton, ON, with flexibility for shift work or extended hours during peak periods as needed. - Previous experience in a technology-forward or asset-based transportation company and relevant post-secondary education in logistics or a related field are considered beneficial. Key Responsibilities - Develop and manage daily, weekly, and long-term transportation schedules based on customer demands and operational capacity. - Assign drivers and vehicles to appropriate routes and deliveries based on availability, location, and compliance regulations. - Monitor real-time transportation activity and proactively address delays, route changes, or service interruptions. - Collaborate with warehouse teams, customer service, and drivers to ensure seamless communication and execution of delivery plans. - Utilize transportation management systems (TMS) and routing software to optimize routes and improve efficiency. - Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, company policies, and safety standards. - Track performance metrics such as on-time delivery, cost per mile, and driver utilization, and revenue per mile targets are achieved. - Manage transportation documentation, including bills of lading, dispatch logs, and delivery confirmations. - Resolve customer or driver issues related to scheduling, routing, or deliveries in a professional and timely manner. - Cross Train with entire dispatch team in order to cover dispatch areas and provide vacation backfill coverage. - Booking customer service appointment times that align with driver transit and on time service success. - Flexibility to cover statutory holidays on rotation is required. Banked time off in lieu is provided.
