About the Opportunity

North Shore Law LLP is looking for a full-time Associate Lawyer based in North Vancouver, BC, on a hybrid basis.

Reporting to the Managing Partner and senior Family Law Partners, this role is responsible for managing a busy family law litigation practice while delivering exceptional client service. The successful candidate will independently manage files from beginning to end, appear in court, collaborate with colleagues on legal strategy, mentor junior team members, and contribute to the continued growth of the firm's family law practice.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Managing family law litigation files from intake through resolution
  • Representing clients in court proceedings, mediations, and negotiations
  • Providing strategic legal advice and exceptional client service
  • Drafting pleadings, affidavits, agreements, correspondence, and other legal documents
  • Conducting legal research and developing litigation strategies
  • Managing client relationships while maintaining a high standard of professionalism
  • Collaborating with partners and colleagues to develop case strategies and achieve successful outcomes
  • Mentoring junior lawyers, paralegals, and legal support staff
  • Building and maintaining a professional network while contributing to business development
  • Managing billable work efficiently and maintaining an active caseload
  • Leveraging technology and modern legal practices to improve efficiency and client service

About You

To qualify, you will need a Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB from an accredited law school and be a member of the Law Society of British Columbia in good standing. A minimum of 4 years of experience in family law litigation, including independently managing files from beginning to end and representing clients in court, will also be essential.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • An existing book of business or the ability to generate and grow your own practice
  • Experience mentoring junior lawyers, paralegals, or legal support staff
  • Strong legal drafting, research, and advocacy skills with excellent attention to detail
  • The ability to manage a busy caseload while delivering exceptional client service
  • A valid driver's licence and the ability to travel to courts throughout the Lower Mainland as required

As our ideal candidate, you will possess excellent communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills that enable you to confidently manage complex litigation matters, develop effective legal strategies, and build lasting client relationships. You will also be self-sufficient, collaborative, entrepreneurial, detail-oriented, and committed to mentoring others while contributing to a supportive, team-oriented culture.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced family lawyer looking to take the next step in their career with a well-established and respected North Shore firm. If you're seeking the autonomy to grow your own practice while working alongside a collaborative team with long-term partnership potential, we want to hear from you.
