Job description
  • Workday Extend Development: Design, develop, and maintain custom applications using Workday Extend. This includes building new app functionality, enhancing existing apps, and deploying solutions that extend Workday’s capabilities for the company's unique needs. Ensure all custom apps follow Workday best practices and are scalable, secure, and maintainable.

  • Integrations & Technical Solutions: Develop and support integrations in Workday and internal systems using Workday Studio, Core Connectors, Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB), Workday Web Services (REST/SOAP), and related technologies. Build and optimize orchestration logic for event-driven data flows and ensure seamless data exchange across HCM, Finance, Payroll, and Student systems.

  • DevOps & Platform Support: Act as a technical steward of the Workday platform by monitoring system health, managing configuration changes, and troubleshooting issues in a timely manner. Participate in a DevOps-style workflow, including version control of Workday artifacts, iterative development, code reviews, and regular deployments. Coordinate with the company IT and other teams on tenant management, security configurations, and release management to support continuous improvement and biannual Workday updates.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with functional leads and subject matter experts in HR, Finance, Payroll, and Student Administration to design solutions that align with business processes. Consult with stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements, conducting structured requirements workshops and business process reviews. Translate business requirements into technical specifications and Workday configuration or development tasks. Ensure that solutions consider impacts and interdependencies across modules (e.g., how a Student module change might affect HR or Finance data).

  • Testing and Quality Assurance: Lead and perform unit testing, integration testing, and user acceptance testing for Workday Extend apps and integrations. Develop test cases and use scenarios to validate that solutions meet requirements and perform reliably. Identify and fix defects or performance bottlenecks. Work with end users to coordinate testing efforts and obtain sign-off on changes.

  • Documentation and Training: Develop and maintain technical documentation for all custom applications, integrations, and configurations. Document designs, data mappings, workflows, and troubleshooting guides to support knowledge transfer within the team. Provide training or guidance to end users and internal team members on new features or processes as needed.

  • Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about new Workday features (including upcoming Student Information System capabilities), feature releases, and best practices. Proactively identify opportunities to leverage new tools (such as Workday Extend or reporting/analytics enhancements) to solve business problems. Recommend and implement process improvements, optimizations, or innovative solutions to enhance the user experience and operational efficiency.

  • Support & Incident Management: Provide Tier 2/3 support for complex issues escalated from the help desk/Service Centre related to Workday functionality. Troubleshoot and resolve application or integration errors; engage Workday support (or other vendors) for product issues when necessary. Communicate resolution and updates to stakeholders in a clear and timely manner. Participate in an on-call rotation or after-hours support as required to maintain critical integrations and systems.

  • Project Leadership & Coordination: For larger initiatives or projects (e.g. rollout of a new Workday module or major Workday Feature), serve as a technical lead or coordinator. This includes estimating effort, defining technical approach, coordinating with other specialists/ analysts ensuring deliverables meet requirements and deadlines. Mentor junior analysts in the team by providing guidance on Workday techniques, reviewing their work, and sharing best practices.

What you must have:

  • Education & Experience: Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or related discipline. 5 years of experience in enterprise application development or configuration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proven experience implementing or supporting an ERP system (Workday or similar SaaS enterprise system) through significant changes or upgrades is required.

  • Workday Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience with Workday integration development (using Studio, EIB, reports/web services) and/or Workday configuration in one or more functional areas (HCM, Finance, Payroll, Student). Familiarity with Workday data model, business process framework, orchestrations and security configuration. Ability to build and troubleshoot complex integrations and custom applications.

  • Programming & API Skills: Proficiency with web service technologies (REST/SOAP APIs, XML, XSLT, JSON). Ability to read and write code or scripts (e.g., in Workday Extend’s JavaScript, or other programming languages) to support custom development and data transformation. Knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts and experience with tools for API testing are assets.

  • Analytical & Business Analysis Skills: Strong skills in requirements gathering, process analysis, and translating business needs into technical solutions. Ability to analyze complex business processes across HR, Finance, Payroll, and Student domains, and recommend configurations or customizations to meet those needs. Adept at creating workflow diagrams, specifications, and documentation for technical solutions.

  • Problem-Solving: Proven ability to troubleshoot system issues and integration errors methodically. Comfortable analyzing error logs, debugging custom code, and employing root cause analysis to resolve problems. Demonstrated initiative in finding innovative solutions to technical challenges.

  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Able to work closely with non-technical stakeholders to explain technical concepts and status updates in clear business terms. Experience working in cross-functional teams and a collaborative team mindset is essential. This role requires frequent interaction with various departments, so interpersonal skills and customer-service orientation are critical.

  • Organization & Autonomy: Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple priorities and projects in parallel. Capable of working independently with minimal supervision, as well as actively contributing in an agile team environment. Must be able to balance project work with operational support duties, maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.

Salary/Rate: $120K per year + 4 weeks vacation + Pension/Benefits + Tuition Discounts
