Job description

The Town of Espanola is seeking an enthusiastic professional to fill an upcoming vacancy in the permanent full-time position of "Manager of Community and Recreation."

Reporting to the CAO, the Manager of Community and Recreation is an essential member of the management team and will be responsible for the efficient and effective assessment, planning, programing, budgeting and management of all community recreation/leisure services. Their primary duty will be overseeing the delivery of community recreation programs and services and the maintenance and upkeep of recreational facilities and equipment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall management, supervision and administration of the Community Recreation department. They will provide vision and leadership for the development and management of high-quality community recreational services.

CORE FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

Development, implementation and monitoring all Community Recreation and Cultural plans.
Development and implementation of strategies and processes to ensure high quality service delivery for the department.
Preparation and administration of annual department budget and expenditure control
Providing overall direction to the Community and Recreation team

QUALIFICATIONS:

Degree or Diploma in Recreation Administration, Facilities Management, Physical Plant (eg. HVAC, Power engineering or similar) or other related disciplines from a recognized educational institution or combination of education and experience.
Five to eight years of experience working in a recreation field with a minimum of three years of management experience.
Extensive knowledge of the philosophies, principles and practices of community recreation, culture and community service delivery.
Excellent project management experience, with the ability to manage and schedule work projects with strong attention to detail.
High level organizational, time management, delegation, planning and leadership skills
Knowledge of the methods, techniques and requirements for the maintenance and upkeep of recreation buildings, facilities, and equipment.
Superior written and verbal communication skills, experience preparing and presenting concise written reports and oral submissions.
Experience preparing and overseeing budgets.
Knowledge of all relevant legislation including the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and Public Pools Act.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Valid Class "G" driver's licence in good standing and have access to a reliable vehicle for use on Town business.
Bilingualism would be considered as an asset.
Valid standard first aid certificate.
HOURS OF WORK: This position typically works 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required to support special events, programs, meetings, or operational needs. The Manager is also expected to participate in an on-call rotation and be available to respond to urgent facility, operational, or community service matters outside of regular business hours, as required.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

$94,931 to $110,037 (2026 grid – Band 10)
Non-union
Comprehensive employee benefit package
OMERS pension (defined benefit plan)
Vacation - 3 to 4 weeks to start
