About The Role:

Reporting to the Manager Public Health Practice within the Public Health Intelligence Division you will bring a unique combination of scientific and technical expertise in health equity and anti-oppressive this role you will support Public Health teams in identifying health inequities and applying a health equity lens to public health programs services and policies.


You will play a key role in strengthening Peel Public Healths organizational capacity to address health inequities and respond to the needs of priority populations within our community. Your ability to think strategically build effective partnerships and collaborate across teams will be essential to advancing equitable public health outcomes.

What Youll Do:

  • Provide expert advice and leadership to conceptualize develop implement and maintain a system to manage issues related to healthy public policy including the use of evidence in policy development
  • Strengthen capacity and raise awareness desire knowledge and involvement in policy as a means of achieving public health objectives including advancing health equity
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with internal corporate and external stakeholders
  • Undertake the analysis of issues and develop approaches to policies related to the objectives of public health including the leadership of ad-hoc teams drawn from public health staff including cross-divisional teams
  • Undertake analysis of health issues from the perspective of strength of evidence impact adverse-impact economic impact public health ethics as appropriate.
  • Develop and implement plans for advocacy involving any of the Medical Officer of Health Regional Council and partners on public health policy issues including health equity
  • Monitor developments at all levels of government and elsewhere to identify issues impacting Public Healths policy goals
  • Maintain relationships with universities and other agencies to identify and act upon opportunities for collaboration and/or funding to undertake research reviews of the literature or other scholarly activities relevant to Public Healths policy goals including leading the development of study protocols data measures and data analysis plans
  • Provide direction to the Research and Policy Analysts and to temporarily assigned staff in conducting research and analysis related to policies to promote health
  • Direct and support educational development for selected public health staff in policy analyses and development including development and delivery of curriculum
  • Engage in partnerships for resource and information sharing purposes; participate in special projects task forces and other activities in support of public health policy development
  • Monitor the development of plan and reports for quality of policy analysis and use of evidence and take necessary actions
  • May develop financial plans and manage budgets provided that these are from external sources
  • Maintain an awareness of the literature and of developments in evidence-informed healthy public policy through literature reviews contacts with other organizations attendance at seminars and workshops
  • Participate in the development of health status reports; produce or oversee the production of reports on policy approaches to health issues
  • Manage reporting and correspondence related to policy initiative including reports to Regional Council and their follow up
  • Act as a representative or spokesperson for Public Health on issues related to healthy public policy; act as delegate for the Medical Officer of Health as appropriate

What Youll Need:

  • Completed undergraduate degree in a Health Science or related field. Combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Expert knowledge and further specialization in project management Health Services and administration
  • Experience within a provincial or municipal government environment with an understanding of the political and administrative culture
  • Strong understanding of comprehensive health promotion critical analysis evidence informed decision-making integrated planning policy development and policy writing
  • Managing projects which require collaboration with a variety of internal resources and persuade or influence others in order to meet project and departmental objectives

Skills/Abilities:

  • Strategic thinker with ability to think conceptually to support operational initiatives
  • Polished communication and specialized interactive skills including negotiating counseling or advocating
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity equity and inclusion through continuous development modeling inclusive behaviors and proactively managing bias
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement timely solutions to complex problems

Nice to Have:

  • Change management knowledge would be an asset
  • Masters degree in Health or Social Science would be an asset

Work Mode & Job Location:

In this role youll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful in-person connection. A minimum of two days per week on-site is expected with additional in-person presence as operational needs evolve. This arrangement allows for a blend of in person and hybrid work that adapts to support both organizational priorities and employee flexibility and is subject to change over time.

Its important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that were compliant with all regulations and policies.
