WHO ARE WE

The Active Adult Centre of Mississauga (AACM) is a registered charity dedicated to enhancing the well‑being of adults aged 50 and older. Founded in 1992, AACM provides a welcoming environment for over 900 senior members, offering diverse programs that promote physical and mental health, social connection, and cultural enrichment. The Centre runs 80 weekly social, recreational, wellness, and multicultural activities to ensure participants remain active and engaged in their community. Guided by the vision of fostering a vibrant community of healthy and involved older adults, AACM plays a vital role in enriching lives and fostering a sense of belonging.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTION

Reporting directly to the President, the Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the overall day‑to‑day operations of the Active Adult Centre. The Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and strategic operational management of the Centre and execution of its mandate, working within the mission, vision and established values of the Centre and in accordance with the By‑laws, Strategic Plan and Policies and Procedures. The Executive Director oversees and manages all Centre resources to ensure the effective delivery of programs and services that respond to the needs of our members in an environment that attracts and retains excellent employees and volunteers.

SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

• Human Resource Management – staffing requirements to maintain effective organizational management; HR policies and compliance; performance management and evaluation; coaching; contract development
• Facility and Administrative Management – ensuring overall standards of superior customer service are maintained; ongoing facility contracts review; insurance renewal/investigation of options; management of licensing agreement with the City of Mississauga
• Financial Management – establish, monitor and report on annual budget; pay/process invoices; oversee contract bookkeeper; supervise payroll administration; complete government reports; review collected statistics; maintain sound financial procedures; work with the Auditor
• Fundraising and Government Grants – achieve annual fundraising goals through research, preparation and submission of varied grants; ensure grant execution and monitoring (reports and statistical analysis); oversee fund development appeals and strategy setting; creation of fluid fund development plan
• Board Liaison – develop Board meeting agenda with the President; participate in Strategic Planning process and setting of strategies for achievement; prepare reports; employ strong decision‑making; conflict resolution, mediation and negotiation skills as required; operationalize strategic objectives;
• Community, Development and Professional Development – build relationships with community organizations and partners (funders, politicians, businesses, property management and other NFP’s, community groups, social clubs, etc.); monitor trends and leverage opportunities; communicate with stakeholders on a regular basis

QUALIFICATIONS

• University degree or College Certification in related field
• Experience in managing a Seniors’ Centre or other social service agency of a similar size
• Supervisory experience (5+ years)
• Experience in project management
• Experience working with seniors and volunteer teams
• Experience in developing programs in a non‑profit environment
• Knowledge and experience with various fundraising vehicles
• Experience writing and reporting on grant applications
• Flexible and able to multitask in a team environment
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills
• Excellent computer, time management and organizational skills
• Proven leadership and problem‑solving skills
• Ability to read and analyze financial statements
• Ability to work with the Board of Directors on the preparation of and reporting on an annual budget of over $1,000,000

SALARY RANGE -

$60,000 to $80,000

HOURS OF WORK –

35 hours of work per week (1.0 FTE) with flexibility to reflect the nature of the Centre’s activities.
