Structural Engineering Manager

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Structural Engineering Manager on behalf of our client. This is an outstanding opportunity for a Professional Engineer with strong precast concrete design experience who is looking to lead both the technical and operational aspects of an engineering team within a manufacturing environment.

This role is approximately 40% structural design and 60% leadership, overseeing engineering, drafting, and quality functions while supporting projects from design through production and site completion. The successful candidate will be responsible for stamping drawings, reviewing structural calculations, mentoring a growing team, and driving quality and continuous improvement initiatives. Direct precast concrete experience is the most important qualification for this role. Candidates with extensive structural design experience and familiarity with CPCI standards will also be considered.

Responsibilities

• Lead the engineering, drafting, and quality control functions for precast concrete projects.

• Design precast concrete structures and structural steel connections in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
• Review, approve, and stamp engineering drawings and structural calculations.
• Manage and mentor a team of engineers, drafting professionals, and quality personnel.
• Support estimating and preconstruction teams by developing efficient, cost-effective structural solutions.
• Coordinate with architects, consultants, contractors, and external engineering firms throughout project delivery.
• Oversee the Quality Control Program, including inspections, testing requirements, and regulatory compliance.
• Provide engineering support to manufacturing operations, production teams, and field installation activities.
• Review lifting plans, erection procedures, crane requirements, and temporary bracing designs.
• Identify opportunities for value engineering, continuous improvement, and operational efficiencies.
• Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, collaboration, and technical excellence.

Qualifications - Must-Haves

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with APEGA.
• Minimum 3 years of direct precast concrete design experience. This is the highest priority requirement.
• Strong understanding of CPCI design standards and precast concrete design principles.
• Ability to stamp engineering drawings and review structural calculations.
• Experience designing precast concrete structures and structural connections in accordance with Canadian design codes.
• Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams.
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Ability to balance hands-on engineering responsibilities with team leadership and project oversight.

Nice-to-Haves

• 5+ years of structural design experience with exposure to precast concrete systems.

• Experience with quality control, manufacturing operations, or construction support.
• Experience using BIM software such as Revit or Tekla.
• Knowledge of Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) requirements and welding procedures.
• Eligibility for professional registration in British Columbia and Saskatchewan.
• Experience with value engineering, continuous improvement, and manufacturing process optimization
