Chippewas of the Thames First Nation is accepting applicants for the position of:

Position Title: Community Developer

Department: Administration Department

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week working onsite 8:30am – 4:30pm

Location: 320 Chippewa Road, Muncey ON

Summary:

Chippewas of the Thames First Nation (COTTFN) is seeking a Community Developer to support the advancement of a Child Centric approach that recognizes the connection between the well-being of children, families, kinship networks, and the broader community. Rooted in Anishinaabe teachings, this role will contribute to community healing, relationship-building, and the development of the Child Well-Being Law under Deshkan Ziibiing Anishinaabe Aki Chi-Inaakonigewin.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate community forums, workshops, meetings, and dialogue sessions focused on child and family well-being.
  • Engage and mobilize extended family networks to support the development of the Child Well-Being Law.
  • Gather community stories, research relevant topics, and document insights to support legislative development.
  • Summarize community feedback and provide reports and recommendations in collaboration with project partners.
  • Develop educational materials and increase awareness of the Child Well-Being Law and its impact.
  • Collaborate with leadership, Elders, prevention staff, and child welfare professionals to draft, review, and refine legislation.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Foster collaboration across departments to support community-focused initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Nation and external partners to ensure alignment with community priorities.
  • Design and support community-based programs, policies, and initiatives that promote family wellness and cultural healing.
  • Facilitate extended family gatherings and engagement sessions to gather input on community values and principles.
  • Ensure traditional teachings are accurately represented through consultation with Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
  • Promote awareness of Nation priorities through workshops, events, social gatherings, and communication initiatives.
  • Utilize digital engagement tools to connect with off-reserve members and encourage participation.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies, Community Development, or related field.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in community engagement, program development, or related work.
  • Experience facilitating meetings and workshops with Indigenous communities.
  • Experience writing reports and presenting information in accessible formats.
  • Experience collaborating across departments or with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities preferred.
