Job description

Company Information

JDRF Electromag Engineering Inc. is a research-intensive product development company located in Port Credit, Mississauga, Ontario. Our mission is to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by making advanced smart lighting affordable and accessible for commercial buildings. We develop smart lighting technology that combines machine learning, edge computing, and data fusion to transform how commercial lighting systems are designed, commissioned, operated, and maintained.

Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Quality Engineer to support both production operations and product quality activities in a fast-paced hardware manufacturing environment. This role combines manufacturing support, quality engineering, and process improvement, requiring strong technical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work across engineering, production, and supply chain teams. The ideal candidate is comfortable working on the production floor, troubleshooting real manufacturing issues, and building structured quality systems to improve product reliability and process consistency.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing & Production Support

  • Support day-to-day manufacturing and production engineering activities
  • Assist with prototype, pilot, and production builds
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing and production issues on the shop floor
  • Support production readiness, material flow, and operational continuity
  • Assist in implementing engineering changes in production environments

Quality Engineering & Systems

  • Support incoming inspection, in-process checks, and final product validation
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA)
  • Investigate product and process defects and identify failure modes
  • Develop and improve quality inspection criteria, checklists, and test processes
  • Support supplier quality communications and nonconformance management
  • Help define and maintain structured quality systems and documentation

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency and process consistency
  • Support development and refinement of work instructions and assembly procedures
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across production and quality functions
  • Analyze recurring issues and recommend systemic improvements

Testing & Technical Validation

  • Support product testing, validation, and troubleshooting activities
  • Assist with setup and execution of functional tests for hardware or electro-mechanical systems
  • Reproduce issues and support engineering teams in identifying root causes
  • Document test results and technical findings clearly and consistently

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Coordination

  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Suppliers
  • Track quality issues and engineering tasks using structured work management systems (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar tools)
  • Support communication between internal teams and external manufacturing partners
  • Maintain organized records of quality issues, investigations, and resolutions

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, or related Engineering discipline

Technical Skills

  • Familiarity with manufacturing, production, or hardware environments
  • Understanding of quality engineering concepts (RCA, defect analysis, inspection processes)
  • Experience with structured documentation (work instructions, test procedures, technical reports)
  • Exposure to work tracking systems (Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Nice to Have

  • Hands-on experience in electronics, hardware, or electromechanical manufacturing
  • Experience with test equipment, lab environments, or production validation setups
  • Exposure to supplier quality or nonconformance processes
  • Experience with continuous improvement or lean manufacturing principles
  • Programming or scripting experience is an asset
