Job description

Salary: $81,724 - 119,862 per year

Requirements:
  • We require a four-year degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, along with at least 6 years of progressive, hands-on experience in software development, systems integration, cloud environments, or enterprise architecture; we may also consider an equivalent blend of education and experience.
  • We are looking for demonstrated senior-level expertise designing, building, and supporting production software systems, including applications, APIs, integrations, and automation platforms.
  • We need proven experience leading or coordinating technical teams, including setting direction, reviewing work, mentoring developers, and driving delivery in a collaborative setting.
  • We expect strong capability in modern software practices, including cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, DevOps, CI/CD, and contemporary architecture patterns.
  • We seek practical experience integrating AI capabilities such as generative AI, large language models, or AI orchestration frameworks into software products in a developer and technical lead capacity.
  • We value a record of turning product needs and user expectations into practical, well-engineered solutions, ideally within a post-secondary, public sector, or similarly complex institutional environment.
  • We require strong communication skills that connect technical and non-technical audiences and help align teams around a shared technical direction.
Responsibilities:
  • We lead the full software delivery lifecycle, including architecture, development, integration, testing, deployment, and ongoing support, while serving as the technical authority for applications, APIs, and systems.
  • We establish and uphold development standards, coding practices, and architectural patterns that keep our codebase clean, maintainable, and scalable.
  • We oversee and approve changes to production environments, including applications, integrations, configurations, and platform updates.
  • We drive proof-of-concept work and rapid prototyping to test new approaches and expand our technical capabilities.
  • We build software that incorporates AI and automation capabilities, including generative AI, APIs, and intelligent workflows, wherever they create meaningful value.
  • We evaluate AI tools, frameworks, and services for practical fit and embed them into modern software solutions rather than treating them as standalone efforts.
  • We ensure AI-enabled features are well engineered, tested, and maintainable, held to the same standards as the rest of the codebase.
  • We identify and develop automation solutions that reduce manual work, streamline institutional workflows, and improve service delivery.
  • We maintain and optimize live systems through performance tuning, reliability improvements, proactive monitoring, and incident response.
  • We ensure software initiatives align with our digital strategy and support learner experience, operational efficiency, and innovation.
  • We collaborate with Senior Product Coordinators and Digital Experience leadership to keep technical delivery and strategic direction aligned.
  • We surface technical constraints, opportunities, and capability gaps that inform product and strategy decisions.
  • We partner with Senior Product Coordinators to convert product vision and user needs into well-engineered, high-impact solutions with usability and accessibility considered from the outset.
  • We champion software solutions that improve how students learn, how staff work, and how the institution delivers services.
  • We lead, mentor, and develop a team of developers by setting technical direction, reviewing work, and fostering a strong collaborative culture.
  • We coordinate delivery across internal developers, contractors, and technical contributors to keep work aligned and progressing.
  • We promote continuous learning, quality craftsmanship, and pragmatic innovation within the team.
  • We strengthen development capability across the team and institution through documentation, code reviews, and hands-on technical guidance.

  • AWS

  • CI/CD
