The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Prenatal Care Team, the Physiotherapist provides assessment, intervention, and follow-up (as indicated) on a direct, consultative, and monitoring basis for ambulatory services (prenatal/postpartum) and inpatient services (including postpartum, high-risk prenatal, gynecology/breast health). The Physiotherapist works in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team both within the Health Centre and in the community. The Physiotherapist participates in the professional development of services through care team meetings, working groups, and subcommittees as appropriate. The Physiotherapist will also participate in the education of patients and families, Health Centre staff, and affiliated students. As a member of the Physiotherapy Service, the Physiotherapist will share responsibility with all IWK Physiotherapists for caseload coverage throughout the Health Centre as required, as well as weekend standby and call-back coverage on a rotational basis.

Hours of Work

Shifts Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours per shift. Weekend standby and call back coverage on a rotational basis. 15 hours bi-weekly.

Your Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) approved Physiotherapy Program required.
  • Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, to practice by the Nova Scotia Regulator of Physiotherapy (NSRPT) required.
  • Minimum two (2) years clinical experience preferred.
  • Clinical experience in physiotherapy management of prenatal/postpartum care preferred.
  • Post-graduate education in prenatal/postpartum management and pelvic health (including internal palpation) preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in assessment and intervention for women’s health required.
  • Pediatric experience preferred (for centre-wide coverage responsibilities).
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical care: commitment to evidence -based practice.
  • Demonstrated commitment to post-graduate education.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within interprofessional collaborative practice framework and the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication (verbal and written) required.
  • Demonstrated excellent time management, organization, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to Family-Centred Care required.
  • Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support Level (BS) Program within the last 12 months, or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate, required.
  • Knowledge of program-based care is an asset.
  • Competency in other languages is considered an asset.
