DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY: Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:Strong interest and ability to teach the Kaska language and culture as a second language;Strong classroom management skills; Ability to adapt and modify curriculum to address students’ needs and gifts to ensure that all students experience success in this program; Ability to work as a team member and a willingness and enthusiasm to participate in all staff meetings, school wide functions and initiatives, as well as Aboriginal Language Teacher professional development; Ability to connect and collaborate with school-based staff, parents and/or caregiver; Willingness to actively promote Kaska language and culture within school programming and environment; Willingness to mentor a language trainee for 2 years, if required.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date Yukon Teacher Certification; learn about the certification process . A Letter of Permission is often provided for those who have the language skills but do not have a teaching certificate. This will be discussed further with the successful candidate.
