Company Description

The THRIVE Youth Program is seeking a Family Physician to join its innovative, interdisciplinary team dedicated to improving the health and well-being of youth and young adults aged 16 to 25. Based in Halifax, the program provides holistic, trauma-informed, and relationship-based care in a welcoming environment where young people are supported to navigate their physical, mental, and social health needs.

At THRIVE, we recognize that health is shaped by much more than medical conditions alone. Our model of care integrates comprehensive primary care services with sexual and reproductive health, gender-affirming care, substance use support, psychotherapy, and mental health services. We work closely with community partners, including Phoenix Youth Programs, the Halifax Refugee Clinic, and other community organizations to reduce barriers to care and ensure youth receive the support they need to thrive.

About THRIVE Youth Program

THRIVE Youth Program is a unique primary care clinic serving youth and young adults aged 16 to 25 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Through a comprehensive and integrated approach to care, the team works to ensure every young person feels welcomed, respected, and supported in achieving their health goals.

Please note: This is a courtesy posting on behalf of THRIVE Youth Program. This opportunity is not affiliated with Nova Scotia Health Physician Recruitment Services.

Job Description

The Opportunity

This is a term position funded for 10 hours per week (approximately 0.2 FTE) and remunerated at the provincial sessional rate. The position is currently funded through March 31, 2027, representing an approximately eight-month term commitment.

This opportunity offers physicians the chance to provide meaningful, relationship-based care while working alongside an experienced interdisciplinary team committed to supporting young people during a pivotal stage of life.

Program Evaluation and Reporting

As this position is supported through sessional funding, the successful candidate will be expected to support ongoing program evaluation by maintaining accurate patient activity data. This includes tracking unique patient volumes and the number of patients presenting for care without a valid Health Card Number (HCN), with statistics provided to Nova Scotia Health Medical Affairs upon request (year-to-date with a monthly breakdown). Billing and service encounter data will also be reviewed as part of the program's annual evaluation.

Accurate data collection and timely reporting are essential components of the role and support evaluation of the program.

  • Demonstrate a strong interest in youth health and development.
  • Value interdisciplinary collaboration and team-based care.
  • Practice through a trauma-informed, culturally safe, and harm-reduction lens.
  • Be comfortable supporting youth with complex medical, mental health, and social needs.
  • Foster trusting relationships and create a safe, respectful space for all patients.
  • Be committed to advancing health equity and reducing barriers to care.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to supporting program evaluation through accurate documentation and reporting of patient activity.

Most importantly, we are looking for a physician who believes in meeting young people where they are and empowering them to take charge of their health and well-being.
