The New Brunswick Union of Public and Private Employees, representing over 10,500 members, is looking for a Bilingual Legal Officer to join our team in Fredericton.
The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for representing the union and its members at grievance arbitration and handling grievance file settlements. The bilingual Legal Officer will also be responsible for appearing before all levels of court and administrative boards and tribunals, conducting legal research and providing legal opinions when required. Some travel is required. The position reports directly to the Executive Director.
The successful candidate will have a law degree and be a member or be eligible to be a member of the Law Society of New Brunswick and have excellent communication, negotiation, interpersonal and problem-solving skills along with an ability to work both as part of a team and independently. Experience appearing before boards/arbitrators in labour/employment matters is considered an asset. Written and spoken proficiency in English and French is also required.
The salary for this unionized position is from $4,097 bi-weekly to $5,232 bi-weekly.

La personne retenue sera principalement responsable de représenter le syndicat et ses membres lors des arbitrages de griefs et de négocier les règlements de dossiers de griefs. L'agent(e) juridique bilingue sera également chargé(e) de comparaître devant tous les niveaux de tribunaux, conseils et commissions administratifs, d'effectuer de la recherche juridique et de fournir des avis juridiques au besoin. Des déplacements occasionnels sont requis. Le poste relève directement de la direction générale.
La personne retenue devra être titulaire d'un diplôme en droit et être membre ou admissible à devenir membre du Barreau du Nouveau-Brunswick. Elle devra également posséder d'excellentes aptitudes en communication, négociation, relations interpersonnelles et résolution de problèmes, ainsi qu'une capacité à travailler en équipe ou de façon autonome. Une expérience de représentation devant des conseils ou arbitres dans le domaine du droit du travail ou de l'emploi constitue un atout. Une maîtrise du français et de l'anglais, à l'oral et à l'écrit, est requise.
Le salaire pour ce poste syndiqué varie de 4 097 $ à 5 232 $ aux deux semaines.
