Job description

Belonging to Air Canada is belonging to a Canadian symbol, Air Canada recently elected best airline in North America. Take off your career by joining our innovative and diverse team at the forefront of passenger air transport.

Reporting to the Director – Airport Strategy and Development, the incumbent is responsible for establishing a unique and integrated planning and modeling capability to support decisions relating to infrastructure, space, and hub capacity. They translate network growth and operational requirements into demand-capacity ratio scenarios to inform airport master planning, investment prioritization, long-term infrastructure decisions, and negotiations with airport authorities. They enable a coherent and data-driven vision of infrastructure needs, facilitating early identification of capacity risks, sequencing constraints and investment trade-offs, promoting proactive collaboration with airport authorities, and strengthening decision-making and governance.

Responsibilities

The incumbent is responsible for providing essential modeling data for master planning and gradual implementation of infrastructure, both for hubs and for other airports in the network. This involves managing a comprehensive database that identifies airport processing capacity, infrastructure, and a wide range of operational and space requirements.

Capacity planning and forecasting

  • Translate operating schedules, passenger data, and process changes into forward-looking forecasts for airport capacity and space demand.
  • Participate in the planning and optimization of Air Canada facilities, drawing on other databases and information, as well as modeling and analysis of space demand, to assess their current and future use, and to proactively identify capacity constraints, underutilization opportunities, and spatial optimization levers across the entire portfolio.
  • Develop scenario models – including growth, consolidation, automation, and process evolution – to assess their feasibility and inform management decisions.
  • Define space planning standards and programming logic to ensure consistency and optimal dimension adaptation across all airport areas.

Decision support and executive engagement

  • Provide options for decision-making to support governance at the highest level and airport negotiations.
  • Provide management-ready dashboards and reports to facilitate investment prioritization and decision-making.

Modeling, analysis, and evaluation

  • Develop and maintain simulation models for passenger processing and boarding gates.
  • Perform varied tasks, including data collection and analysis, as well as the design of models, methods, and simulations.
  • Conduct comprehensive and rigorous quantitative analyses.
  • Assess the consequences of current and future process developments at airports and evaluate how they contribute to or hinder Air Canada's growth strategy.

Strategic advice and stakeholder engagement

  • Provide guidance and advice regarding network planning strategy and the long-term plan.
  • Provide detailed analysis to develop comprehensive airport strategies, aligning commercial, customer service, and financial objectives.
  • Interact with government agencies to understand changes and new processes to integrate them into simulation models.

Project participation and process analysis

  • Participate in working groups dedicated to airport and terminal redevelopment projects, with a clear vision of their impact on Air Canada's business and operations.
  • Where appropriate, perform airport process analyses from both internal and external data sources and formulate recommendations based on the conclusions drawn.
  • Conduct in-depth consultations with internal stakeholders.

Continuous learning and industry engagement

  • Stay abreast of the latest technical developments in simulations and management science, as well as new applications, in the business world and in the civil aviation sector.
  • Participate in relevant forums to discuss and understand trends in the fields of simulation and data analysis, with the aim of integrating this knowledge into Air Canada's future analytical strategies.

Qualifications

  • University degree (Master's, an asset) in mathematics, statistics, engineering, economics, or a related discipline.
  • At least three years of relevant experience in business analysis or data analysis.
  • Solid experience in airport operations and planning (terminal and airside).
  • Experience with simulation software (CAST, Simio, or similar software).
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office suite products and extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Access, SQL programming, and other data tools.
  • Experience in the airline, airport, transport, or general infrastructure sector.
  • Program management certifications, an asset.
  • Knowledge of airport lease management, space protection, and property rights control.
  • Proven punctuality and reliability to promote overall team success in a fast-paced environment.

Employment conditions
