Senior Telecom Network Engineer
Location: Burnaby, BC (Hybrid )
Duration: 12-Month Contract
MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Telecom Network Engineer to support one of British Columbia's largest utility providers. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced telecommunications engineer to lead the design and delivery of mission-critical communications infrastructure that supports the province's electrical grid.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll provide technical leadership throughout the full project lifecycle—from planning and design through construction support and commissioning—while helping modernize utility telecommunications systems.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop telecommunications systems supporting critical utility infrastructure.
- Prepare engineering studies, design calculations, technical reports, specifications, and project documentation.
- Act as the Professional of Record by preparing signed and sealed engineering deliverables.
- Review engineering designs completed by consultants and external service providers to ensure compliance with engineering standards and constructability requirements.
- Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, field reviews, and site inspections.
- Resolve complex engineering and field issues through sound technical analysis and engineering judgment.
- Coordinate engineering activities with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Prepare project scopes, schedules, cost estimates, and progress reports.
- Conduct peer reviews and provide technical mentorship to engineering and technical staff.
- Ensure engineering work complies with applicable regulatory requirements, engineering standards, and project management practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering from a recognized Canadian university.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), or immediately eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
- Minimum 8 years of progressive telecommunications engineering experience.
- Strong experience designing telecommunications systems for large infrastructure or utility environments.
- Experience with IP/MPLS and Private LTE network technologies.
- Excellent communication, technical writing, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong understanding of engineering quality management and project delivery processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within the utility or power generation industry.
- Experience with WiMAX, SONET, TDM systems, mobile radio systems, teleprotection circuits, antennas and towers, and grounding systems.
- Experience reviewing consultant designs and providing Owner's Engineer support.
- Experience supporting construction, commissioning, and field engineering activities.
Work Environment
- Hybrid work arrangement based out of the Edmonds office in Burnaby.

- Occasional travel to project sites as required.
