Job description
Job Title: Manager, Talent & Culture (HR Operations & Employee Relations)
Job ID: 89410
Location: Surrey, British Columbia

Overview:
Our client is seeking a Manager, Talent & Culture to provide operational leadership across the HR function while serving as a trusted business partner to the COO and leadership team. This individual will bring stability, sound judgment, and consistency to the employee experience by leading employee relations, performance management, HR operations, recruiting, and key people initiatives.
Success in this role requires someone who combines strong HR fundamentals with exceptional emotional intelligence. You are an empathetic leader, a thoughtful coach, and a practical problem solver who can navigate sensitive situations with professionalism while building trusted relationships across the organization. You'll help simplify complexity, improve consistency, and ensure HR operates as a proactive business partner rather than an administrative function.

What you will be doing:
  • Lead the day-to-day HR function, providing operational leadership and practical guidance across the business.
  • Partner closely with the COO as a trusted advisor, helping navigate employee relations, organizational challenges, and people decisions.
  • Coach managers through performance management, conflict resolution, investigations, difficult conversations, and employee development.
  • Lead complex employee relations matters while ensuring issues are addressed early, fairly, and consistently.
  • Build trusted relationships across all levels of the organization by listening first, exercising sound judgment, and balancing business needs with employee experience.
  • Oversee and develop the Talent & Culture team, establishing clear expectations, accountability, and consistent execution.
  • Partner with hiring managers to deliver structured, efficient, and consistent recruitment processes.
  • Oversee HR operations, ensuring policies, documentation, systems, compliance, and employee records are accurate and well maintained.
  • Support strategic initiatives including compensation reviews, culture initiatives, benefits administration, and HRIS implementation.
  • Build scalable HR processes that improve consistency, reduce ambiguity, and enhance the overall employee experience.
  • Identify organizational risks early and provide thoughtful recommendations before issues escalate.
  • Operate with a high degree of ownership, discretion, professionalism, and independent decision-making while knowing when executive alignment is required.

What you must have:
  • 10+ years of progressive HR Generalist experience, including employee relations, performance management, recruiting, HR operations, and employment legislation.
  • 2+ years of people leadership experience, with a demonstrated ability to coach managers, develop HR team members, and build accountability.
  • Proven experience leading complex employee relations matters, navigating difficult conversations, and exercising sound judgment in sensitive situations while maintaining trust and confidentiality.
  • Strong BC Employment Standards Knowledge
  • Highly empathetic communicator with exceptional listening skills, emotional intelligence, executive presence, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-moving, evolving environment.

Nice to have:
  • Experience leading or supporting HRIS implementations, compensation reviews, benefits administration, or broader HR transformation initiatives.
  • Background building or improving HR processes, workflows, and operational systems that create consistency and scalability.
  • Experience supporting rapidly growing, founder-led, technology, media, or creative organizations.
  • Payroll and benefits administration experience, along with strong knowledge of BC Employment Standards and HR best practices.

Salary/Rate Range: $90,000.00 - $120,000.00

Ideal Candidate Summary
  • The ideal candidate is not simply an experienced HR Manager—they are a trusted business partner who brings calm, clarity, and sound judgment to every interaction. They are emotionally intelligent, highly approachable, and exceptional at building trust through listening, balanced decision-making, and thoughtful communication.
