About the role:

Reporting to the Engineer, Continuous Improvement, the Machine Building Technician is responsible for building, assembling, integrating, commissioning, and supporting custom automation equipment and robotic work cells. • Perform equipment testing, machine commissioning, production trials, and start-up activities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and automation issues.
  • Support preventative maintenance and recommend improvements to increase equipment reliability, safety, and productivity.
  • Assist with engineering projects, equipment installations, relocations, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and machine risk assessments.
  • Maintain accurate build documentation, engineering records, bills of materials, and project documentation.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Continuous Improvement teams while continuously developing automation and machine-building expertise.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate of Qualification as a Tool and Die Maker, Millwright (Industrial Mechanic), or Machine Tool Builder and Integrator (MTBI), or post-secondary education in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation Engineering Technology, or Mechanical Technician.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a custom automation or machine-building environment.
  • Experience building, commissioning, and troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong mechanical assembly, precision machining, fabrication, and blueprint/schematic reading skills.
  • CAD experience, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and continuous improvement skills.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Experience with robotics, prototype equipment, commissioning, or manufacturing improvements is considered an asset.
