Yard Supervisor

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Yard Supervisor on behalf of a leading industrial organization in the Lower Mainland. This is an opportunity to join a large-scale operation where safety, leadership, and operational excellence are at the forefront. The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day yard activities, lead a diverse team, and play a key role in supporting production and maintenance objectives across the site.

Responsibilities

• Lead the safe and efficient operation of the plant yard while promoting a strong safety culture.
• Supervise a team of 10–20 employees during regular operations and support larger crews during planned shutdowns.
• Coordinate daily work assignments, schedules, and staffing requirements, including overtime and vacation coverage.
• Conduct workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and safety meetings.
• Support employee onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management initiatives.
• Coordinate contractors and temporary workers to ensure work is completed safely and effectively.
• Maintain housekeeping and environmental compliance standards throughout the site.
• Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, and other departments to support operational goals.
• Monitor departmental spending and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Support labour relations activities and assist with the administration of collective agreements where applicable

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience in an industrial or heavy industry environment.
• At least 2 years of supervisory experience leading frontline teams.
• Proven ability to lead through influence and effectively manage challenging situations and personalities.
• Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety.
• Experience coordinating contractors, temporary labour, or shutdown activities is considered an asset.
• Exposure to unionized environments and collective agreements is highly desirable.
• Strong communication, conflict resolution, and coaching skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; ERP experience (SAP or similar) is an asset.
• Post-secondary education in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline is an asset.
