Senior Automation QA Engineer
Location: Toronto
Duration : 6 Months with a strong possibility of an extension.
Work Model: Hybrid, on site Mon and Wed weekly
Design and build scalable automation frameworks for web, mobile (iOS/Android), and API testing using Java-based Maven projects
Develop and maintain automation scripts using tools such as Selenium, Playwright, Appium, and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines
Implement BDD-based automation frameworks using Cucumber, including writing feature files, step definitions, and reusable components
Write and execute BDD scenarios using Given/When/Then syntax, and manage test execution using tags (e.g., @smoke, @regression)
Configure and maintain automation execution through environment configurations and Maven/TestNG setups
Perform hands-on testing across - Web applications, Mobile applications (iOS and Android using tools like Perfecto/Appium), APIs (REST and SOAP)
Validate end-to-end workflows across UI API backend systems, ensuring accuracy and consistency
Define and own the manual vs automation split, ensuring optimal coverage based on repeatability, risk, and ROI
Integrate automation suites into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps) and enable continuous testing
Work with applications deployed in AWS environments, understanding configurations, deployments, and validation approaches
Lead and coordinate QA activities across functional, integration, and regression testing phases
Support release cycles with regression execution, defect tracking, and quality reporting
Build and maintain traceability between requirements, test scenarios, and defects
Collaborate closely with developers, product owners, and architects to ensure testability and quality from early stages
Track and manage defects using tools like JIRA, perform root cause analysis, and ensure timely resolution
This is not a pure manual testing role - automation is central to the position
This is not a coordination-only QA role - the expectation is deep hands-on automation involvement
Candidates who lack hands-on coding and automation framework experience will not be a fit for this role
