Reporting to the CEO, the Quality Assurance Director is responsible for regulatory compliance, food safety, and the quality. This individual oversees the implementation and continuous improvement of quality policies and systems, ensures the rigor of manufacturing, packaging, and sanitation processes, and verifies that food safety standards, certifications (HACCP, GFSI, B Corp, Organic, Non-GMO), and good manufacturing practices are adhered to by all employees, contractors, and visitors.
As a member of the executive committee, she plays a strategic role in quality risk management, prevention, and maintaining certifications, and serves as a quality reference for other departments, regulatory authorities (CFIA, MAPAQ), and customers. She also acts as a hands-on leader for her team—QA coordinator, QC technician—by fostering a culture of continuous improvement, compliance, and commitment to quality.
Skills and qualifications :
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in food science and technology, microbiology, food processing, or a related field;
- Specialized training in HACCP, GFSI, and quality management systems is considered a significant asset.
Skills and Experience:
- A minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in a similar quality management position, ideally in an agri-food processing company;
- Prior experience in the oils, condiments, or food products sector—where products are subject to strict quality standards—is considered a significant asset;
- Proficiency in HACCP, GFSI, CFIA, MAPAQ, and RSAC standards, as well as traceability and recall management requirements;
- Experience in audit management, developing quality control plans, cleaning validation, and team training;
- Experience in implementing and maintaining certifications such as B Corp, organic, or non-GMO is considered a strong asset;
- Ability to explain complex regulatory requirements in layman’s terms to various internal and external audiences;
- Proficiency with digital tools related to quality management (dashboards, document management systems, quality databases);
- Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage improvement projects, a departmental budget, and performance metrics;
- Demonstrated experience in recruiting, motivating, and developing.
