What you'll do

Responsibilities

As the Manager, Office of L'nu Student Success you will:

  • Provide strategic, culturally responsive first voice, lived experience informed leadership to advance L'nu student success, retention and belonging across the College.
  • Oversee a team dedicated to supporting the academic and career pathways of L'nu students, with a particular emphasis on Mi'kmaq students and communities.
  • Serve as a primary institutional resource for L'nu student support, ensuring that programming, supports, and initiatives honor the traditions and culture of the Mi'kmaq Nation while fostering excellence throughout the student lifecycle.
  • Work collaboratively with the Program Director, L'nu Initiatives and Reconciliation, and act as a liaison between the College and Mi'kmaq communities on matters related to student success.
  • Work closely with the Manager, Office of Black Student Success & Community Engagement, to build a cohesive joint team, honoring the interconnected dimensions of identity and experience, and to maximize synergies across the work of the four Community Coordinators and other roles within the Offices.
  • Provide leadership support to the 2SLGBTQ+ Student Community Coordinator, fostering a welcoming and inclusive experience for L'nu students, as well as students, from the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
  • Actively support approaches that affirm gender diversity, sexual orientation, and cultural identity. This role acknowledges the heightened need for culturally responsive mentorship, community building and coordinated supports that enhance persistence and holistic success for 2SLGBTQ+ students.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in L'nu educational settings, student supports, community engagement, Reconciliation-focused programming, or educational leadership.
  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline including Mi'kmaw studies, Indigenous studies, social sciences, business, education, etc. is preferred and/or related work experience in the areas of L'nu education, policy, programs, or strategies.
  • Lived experience as a member of the Mi'kmaq/Indigenous community.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with L'nu students, communities, organizations and Elders.
  • Proven ability to design, implement, and assess culturally responsive programs that support L'nu students.
  • Experience supervising and coaching staff, managing budgets, and leading strategic initiatives.
  • Experience engaging with community councils, advisory groups, and leadership tables.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, including email.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.

Relevant Skills and Knowledge

  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, Reconciliation and social justice principles.
  • Deep understanding of Mi'kmaq history, culture, Treaty Rights, and contemporary community realities, including systemic inequities and cultural strengths.
  • Strong knowledge of Mi'kmaq/Indigenous education frameworks, Reconciliation commitments, and healing centered, trauma-informed, culturally safe practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of Mi'kmaq and/or Indigenous ways of teaching, learning, and knowing.
  • An understanding of barriers and supports required for members of the Mi'kmaq/Indigenous community and the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills, with the ability to work respectfully with Elders, Grandmothers, Knowledge Keepers, and community leaders.
  • Your collaborative leadership skills enable you to partner across departments and work effectively within a complex post-secondary matrix environment.
  • You are an excellent communicator, facilitator, and are adept at conflict resolution.
  • You possess strong organizational, project management, and analytical skills.
  • You demonstrated commitment to equity, Reconciliation and social justice principles.
  • You have demonstrated an understanding of relevant privacy laws and discretion related to dealing with confidential information.
  • You have demonstrated strength in supervising, managing and leading a team.
  • You are known for your ability to direct, influence and manage several functions simultaneously with a demonstrated practice of promoting collaboration and collegiality.
  • You are dedicated to life-long learning and view challenges as opportunities for learning and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to attend community or student events, as needed.
