Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the permanent, part-time position of Utility Operator II (Part-Time - Backshift) with the Halifax Forum.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the facility, ice making, building operation services, maintenance of ice surfaces, cleaning, building maintenance and set up for special events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Record any machinery malfunctions, changes in operation conditions, maintenance performed on equipment or machinery in the daily log book
• Ice maintenance-which includes installation, ice resurfacing, operating and maintaining ice resurfacer
• Cleaning of entire arenas including washrooms, dressing rooms, dasher boards etc.
• Security of equipment in the arena and the building itself
• General repairs or arena equipment including goal nets
• Assists with preparing facility for initial ice making, painting ice, maintain, shave and flood the ice, operate and maintain the Zamboni
• Security of equipment in the complex
• General repairs to complex and facility equipment
• Snow removal
• Event set-ups and tear downs
• Inspect and maintain boards
• Maintain dressing rooms and other areas within the arena
• Maintain and adhere to all applicable Government Regulations and Acts relating to the operation of the Halifax Forum Complex
• Other related assigned duties including those of the utility workers

QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience

• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Valid NS Class 5 driver's license
• Minimum one (1) year experience (manual labor)

Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities

• Experience operating an ice resurfacing machine is considered an asset
• Valid WHMIS, Emergency First Aid, CPR Accreditation or willingness to obtain
• Knowledge of required safety procedures and work practices
• Must have a good attendance and work record
• Must have excellent customer service skills
• Must have availability to handle stressful situations
• Must have ability to work independently and as a member of a team
• Must have ability to work safely and report any workplace hazards
• Must have ability and skills to effectively interact with the general public and internal clients
• Must ensure staff are properly trained on the use and safety elements of all equipment/processes

Candidates must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position and have valid licensing, as required.

Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

WORK STATUS: Permanent, part-time.

HOURS OF WORK: Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays from 11:30pm – 7:30am.

SALARY: Group 3, $28.67 per hour as per CUPE Local 108 Collective Agreement.

WORK LOCATION: Halifax Forum, 2901 Windsor Street, Halifax (Supervisor: Greg Raymond).
