Specialized Program Teacher – Foundational Literacy & Numeracy - 1.0 fte

Hunting Hills High School is seeking a passionate and student-centered Inclusive Education Teacher to join our team in a living skills program for students with developmental delays, potentially with physical, sensory, or medical conditions. This role is ideal for a generalist or elementary-trained teacher with strong skills in foundational literacy and numeracy who is interested in working in a high school environment. The successful candidate will believe deeply in inclusive practices, relationship based teaching, and helping students build confidence in literacy, numeracy, and life skills.

This position focuses on foundational learning for a small cohort of students, providing meaningful, hands‑on, and structured learning experiences that support academic growth, independence, and overall well‑being. The teacher will be responsible for approximately 15 students and will coordinate the work of four Educational Assistants to ensure all students receive targeted, individualized support.

The successful candidate will support students in an already structured, inclusive program focused on engagement, skill development, wellness, and independence.

• Students participate in music‑based activities (instruments, rhythm, creative expression) to support regulation, engagement, and relationship‑building.
• Instruction includes small‑group teaching and structured task‑based stations targeting literacy, numeracy, and functional skills, with differentiated support provided by Educational Assistants.
• Daily programming also includes physical activity and wellness, using gym and fitness facilities for activities such as basketball, floor hockey, bocce, and cooperative games, with a focus on healthy living and movement skills.
• Students receive instruction in literacy, numeracy, and life skills across two learning spaces : a classroom equipped for academic instruction and a life‑skills “condo” where students practice meal preparation, organization, and independence.
• The role involves close collaboration with the classroom teacher and support staff to maintain routines, provide individualized support, and promote positive behaviour and inclusion.
