Expected Salary Range : $82,108.00 - $102,635.00 - $128,294.00

Our typical hiring range will be + / - 10% of the midpoint shown above

The Role

Reporting to the Manager, People Rewards & Wellness, the Senior Specialist of Occupational Health & Safety plays an essential role in helping our workers and our leaders understand their health and safety obligations to take ownership of ensuring a healthy and safe workplace. They are the trusted subject matter expert who develops and implements programs, safe work procedures, policies and training to enable us to deliver on our health & safety obligations every day. We work in-office and remote, in gaming facilities and mobile environments, with some working outside the typical 9 to 5, and in roles with diverse safety conditions and requirements. BCLC places a high value on psychological health & safety as well as physical. The ideal candidate would be able to offer perspectives from both lenses.

What you will accomplish

  • You will have the opportunity to be a leader in shaping our health & safety program and culture, working in a tight knit team whose leadership believes strongly in the importance of safety and will support efforts and ideas to improve our practices.
  • You will make recommendations and help to develop a roadmap to add to our existing safety program.
  • You will develop programs, procedures, policies and respond to ad-hoc issues that arise in order to keep us compliant with WorkSafeBC requirements and most importantly, keep our people safe.
  • You will build relationships and trust with a wide variety of stakeholders including people operations, joint health & safety committee, casino health & safety committee, first aid attendants, leaders & employees to work towards a common goal.
  • You will develop and deliver training to leaders and employees with the goal of raising awareness of our obligations, including identifying, reporting, investigating and mitigating hazards, injuries and near misses.

  • You are accomplished with building health & safety programs, developing policies & procedures.
  • You are able to elevate health & safety awareness, inspire others to action and apply a risk-based approach to everything you do.
  • You are an effective communicator, able to build relationships while tailoring your approach to adapt to various individual personalities and styles.
  • You understand that meaningful and lasting culture change takes time and diligence, with every small step and conversation representing an opportunity to bring you closer to your goal.
  • You are a self starter, able to manage your time, prioritize, develop and execute roadmaps while also responding to ad hoc requests.
  • You know how to develop and deliver structured training content on health & safety programs using PowerPoint and Articulate360 (experience with Articulate360 to develop courses not required but desirable).
  • It would be great if you also had

  • Experience or expertise in psychological health & safety and with the National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety.
