Job description

Interior Health is seeking a Manager, Nursing Informatics! This role will lead nursing informatics and clinical informatics initiatives that support healthcare service delivery. In this role, you will guide the use of technology in clinical practice and coordinate resources to ensure effective adoption and utilization in accordance with professional standards.

The salary range for this position is $108,147 (min) to $135,184 (midpoint) to $155,461 (max) per annum, based on 1.0 FTE. Interior Health typically establishes salaries within the minimum and midpoint of the salary range based on qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

How will you make an impact?

The Manager, Nursing Informatics (Manager), is accountable for ensuring excellence in the provision of nursing informatics and clinical informatics skills. This role includes recognizing information and communication technology (ICT) is a tool of professional nursing and allied health practice and thus the need for participation in all stages of developing ICT and maintaining initiatives, to increase user adoption and proficiency.

The Manager provides leadership and planning on optimizing ICT use in health care service delivery. The Manager is accountable for efficient, effective utilization of approved physical, financial and human resources to guide and coordinate the use of technology in multiple clinical areas according to professional standards.

Leadership

  • Leads and creates a work environment that supports mutual respect, open communication, teamwork, collaboration, shared learning, and innovation.
  • Provides leadership and planning to expand the role of nursing informatics skills and knowledge within Interior Health (IH). This role includes support to advance a client-centered Electronic Health Record (EHR) across the continuum of care to:
  • respect and protect the privacy of client information;
  • include clinical care data from all disciplines;
  • and be designed in collaboration with registered nurses and allied health disciplines to ensure that clinical data is captured in a standardized way that reflects the practice and impact of direct patient care.
  • Researches and collaborates with appropriate clinical areas to ensure optimal technology integration into health service delivery.
  • Empowers citizens with access to health and wellness information and health services.
  • Creates processes and standards to increase confidence in accuracy, security and use of information for care delivery and decision making.
  • Administers collective agreements and represents IH in the grievance process, on various union/management committees, and during essential service situations.
  • Vigorously promotes IH’s vision, mission, values, and strategic direction.

Resource Management

  • Recruits, hires, trains, disciplines, and terminates staff as required. Provides mentoring and coaching to staff, completes performance evaluations and prepares staff development, training schedules, and succession plans.
  • Liaises with educational institutions and training programs to support internal continuous learning opportunities in health informatics.
  • Engages in planning to create resources for future growth and strategic system transformation.
  • Maintains fiscal accountability by collecting and monitoring necessary fiscal and utilization data and analyses data appropriately. Ensures effective use of resources by monitoring the budget, identifying variances, and taking corrective action as required to maintain expenditures within the approved budget.
  • Manages external vendor contracts where appropriate.

Program and Service Delivery

  • Leads, coordinates clinical resources to support system transformation initiatives.
  • Leads and participates in operational and system improvements by engaging inter-disciplinary teams in critical problem solving, utilizing quality improvement methodology to support a data-driven care system.
  • Promotes service delivery standards and mindset that aligns with ICT service management principles.
  • Proactively supports nursing and allied health transitions to electronic information systems and future artificial intelligence opportunities.
  • Provides problem solving and consultation.

Relationships

  • Supports partnership development within Health Technology and other IH portfolios and external agencies, including post-secondary academic institutions.
  • Assists in the development of and participates in governance structures for clinical informatics throughout IH, ensuring representation and consensus of partners.
  • Participates in various committees/working groups related to clinical informatics or ICT services.
  • Liaises with academic institutions to facilitate and support nursing student practicums.
  • Promotes positive interactions between staff and the public.

Quality Improvement Evaluation/Risk Management

  • Works collaboratively with team members and managers to implement changes that support best practices.
  • Supports internal and external audit and data reporting processes occur from community systems to IH Operations leadership, MoH, and the Canadian Institute of Health Information (CIHI).
  • Develops and supports evaluation tools and processes for clinical informatics and user communities.

Other

  • In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, maintain a healthy and safe work environment through complying with and implementing applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, responding to requests from WSBC, identifying hazards and communicating risks, ensuring compliance with employee training, conducting effective incident investigations and implementing required corrective actions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
