Job Description

The Opportunity

Build the Future with Us Join a team of dam engineering specialists helping shape Canada's renewable energy future. As an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer - Hydro & Dams, you will contribute to the planning, assessment, design, rehabilitation, and safety of critical water infrastructure projects across Canada. Working alongside multidisciplinary Hydro & Dams teams, you'll collaborate with geotechnical, structural, hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical professionals to deliver resilient engineering solutions that support communities and sustainable energy development.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to deepen their technical expertise, gain exposure to major hydroelectric and dam projects, and grow their career within one of Canada's leading engineering consultancies.

Your Impact

  • Support the design and rehabilitation of embankment dams, dykes, cofferdams, and related geotechnical infrastructure from planning through detailed design.
  • Perform geotechnical analyses and interpret site investigation data to develop safe, practical, and sustainable engineering solutions.
  • Participate in dam inspections, Dam Safety Reviews, and assessments of geotechnical instrumentation to support risk identification and mitigation recommendations.
  • Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and field investigations while ensuring compliance with project requirements and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet client, regulatory, and project objectives.
  • Contribute to technical reporting, specifications, design calculations, and drawing reviews that support successful project delivery.
  • Participate in quality assurance reviews, project meetings, and technical discussions to maintain high engineering standards.
  • Build strong client and stakeholder relationships while contributing to the continued growth of WSP's Hydro & Dams practice.

The Skills That Set You Apart

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada, or eligible to obtain registration in the near term.
  • 5-8 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience, preferably supporting dam, hydroelectric, water resource, or civil infrastructure projects.
  • Experience performing geotechnical analyses and interpreting subsurface investigation and instrumentation data.
  • Working knowledge of dam safety practices, regulatory requirements, industry standards, and applicable Canadian Dam Association (CDA) guidelines.
  • Experience preparing technical reports, engineering calculations, specifications, and construction support documentation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • A commitment to technical excellence, continuous learning, and delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
