About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a Policy Analyst to join our team. This is a key position within the Marine Renewables Division responsible for providing support to the Department's efforts to develop tidal and offshore wind energy resources. As the Policy Analyst, you will be responsible for administering programs and contributing to projects related to marine renewable energy.

The Policy Analyst is responsible for administering the Marine Renewable-energy Act and its regulations and the administration of the tidal energy license and permit program. They work collaboratively as a member of an integrated, multi-disciplinary team, and with other provincial partners and external stakeholders. This position also provides support in broader areas of marine renewable energy research and development.

Primary Accountabilities

The primary focuses of this position will be program administration, policy analysis, and research. The successful candidate will possess skills and experience in:

  • Program administration, program delivery, and data management;
  • Compliance Monitoring;
  • Outreach, relationship building, and stakeholder engagement; and
  • Research, analysis, and writing and reviewing reports and documents.

Daily work focuses on program administration, policy analysis, and research, and may include:

-Reviewing reports and managing data for compliance tracking and program analysis;

-Communication with research organizations, industry associations, and tidal energy licence and permit holders; and

-Jurisdictional scans and research to support advancing marine renewable energy programs and policies.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have a bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5 years of relevant work experience; or a master’s degree, or similar, along with 3 years of relevant work experience. Relevant experience can include program development and administration, policy analysis, grant funding, compliance monitoring, and/or research related to marine renewable energy or similar fields.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the province’s energy policies, targets, programs, and initiatives, especially those related to tidal energy resources. They will have strong skills in project management and program administration. The ideal candidate will be able to work with a high degree of independent judgement and initiative and be able to develop concepts and communicate them effectively, both in writing and verbally.

Work experience related to the marine environment, technology innovation, or clean, renewable energy would be an asset. In addition to the above, this position will also require:

-The ability to manage and prioritise concurrent tasks within a fast-paced, dynamic environment;

-The ability to work independently and perform independent research and analysis;

-Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills; and

-The ability to effectively engage with senior-level staff.

The above qualifications and competencies will be assessed using one or more of the following tools: written assessments, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Additional Information

This is a temporary opportunity with an anticipated end date of Feb 5, 2027, with a possibility of extension. However, the position status (“term”, “temporary” or “casual”) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate and the overall duration of the position in alignment with the collective agreement.

Pay Grade: PR 13

Salary Range: $2,805.63 - $3,410.48 Bi-Weekly
