Hatch is seeking a Senior Municipal Engineer to join our Highways and Bridges team. This role supports the delivery of complex municipal and transportation infrastructure projects across Canada, with a strong focus on utility coordination and wet utility design.

Please note this is an Expression of Interest (EOI) posting intended to collect resumes and expressions of interest for an upcoming position.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and support the design and coordination of wet utility systems, including watermains, sanitary sewers, and storm sewers.
  • Support the layout, coordination, and design considerations for dry utilities, including hydro, gas, and telecommunications, within transportation and urban corridors.
  • Lead utility relocation planning and third‑party coordination with utility owners, municipalities, agencies, and other external stakeholders.
  • Apply subsurface utility engineering principles to evaluate utility data quality and support informed design decisions.
  • Interface with project teams and third‑party stakeholders to resolve utility conflicts and support approvals.
  • Review and guide utility design deliverables to ensure technical quality and coordination across disciplines.
  • Support permitting, utility agreements, constructability reviews, and agency submissions.
  • Provide technical support during construction, including RFI responses and site reviews as required.
  • Contribute to project planning, schedules, budgets, and resourcing.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to proposals and client relationships.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada (or eligible).
  • 7+ years of experience in municipal and/or transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Proven ability to design wet utility systems, including watermains and sanitary and storm sewers.
  • Experience with dry utility coordination and design considerations, including interface with hydro, gas, and telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience leading third‑party utility coordination with owners, agencies, and stakeholders.
  • Required familiarity with subsurface utility engineering and mapping standards, including:
    • ASCE 38 (Quality Levels A–D)
    • CSA S250 for underground utility mapping accuracy
  • Strong knowledge of local standards. For example in Ontario:
    • OPSS and OPSS MUNI
    • Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings (OPSD)
    • Utility owner standards and requirements
    • TAC guidelines and MTO standards
  • Working knowledge of CAD platforms (MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D) is an asset, particularly for review and coordination.
  • Strong communication skills and experience working in multi‑disciplinary teams.

Why this role?

  • Work on major transportation and municipal infrastructure projects that shape communities.
  • Be part of a collaborative, people‑centered culture focused on innovation and digital delivery.
  • Access long‑term career development, mentorship, and technical growth opportunities.
  • Flexible daily hours within a full‑time, on‑site team environment.
