Job Title: Environmental Lead

Location: Kitimat, BC

Length: 2 Years (with potential extension)

Rotation: 5 days on / 2 days off or 14 days on / 7 days off

Role Summary

The Company operates in one of the world's most environmentally sensitive and highly regulated regions. Reporting to the Phase 2 HSSE Manager, the Phase 2 Environmental Lead will provide leadership, oversight, and continuous improvement of environmental programs supporting the construction, commissioning, and start-up of the Phase 2 Project.

The role is responsible for developing, implementing, and assuring environmental compliance programs across EPCM, plant, and Company Provided Item (CPI) scopes. In addition, the position serves as Contract Holder for the CPI dredging scope, overseeing a complex civil and marine project in an environmentally sensitive and contaminated area with significant regulatory and stakeholder requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Environmental Leadership & Compliance

  • Provide visible HSSE leadership and promote a strong environmental and safety culture aligned with project objectives.
  • Deliver environmental requirements identified within project permits, management plans, and procedures.
  • Support permit development and regulatory approval processes.
  • Ensure compliance verification activities are executed and documented.
  • Advise construction teams on environmental field requirements and best practices.
  • Develop and implement environmental monitoring and reporting programs.
  • Establish systems and tools to monitor environmental emissions and discharges.
  • Manage environmental monitoring contracts and consultant performance.
  • Oversee fisheries offset programs, wetland monitoring initiatives, and associated reporting.
  • Support environmental incident investigations, regulatory reporting, and corrective action implementation.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement environmental management plans, procedures, and work methods.
  • Participate in environmental audits, assurance reviews, and compliance assessments.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies and manage site-specific permit obligations.
  • Support site and marine spill prevention, mitigation, and response planning.
  • Coordinate environmental consultants conducting monitoring, remediation, wildlife, fisheries, and vegetation programs.
  • Support commissioning and start-up activities, ensuring lessons learned and project handover requirements are captured.

CPI Dredging Contract Management

  • Act as Contract Holder for the CPI dredging scope (approximately USD $100 million).
  • Manage contractor performance while ensuring compliance with project quality, cost, schedule, and environmental objectives.
  • Coordinate interfaces between project teams, engineering disciplines, operations, contractors, vendors, regulators, and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure all permitting, compliance, verification, and regulatory commitments are met.
  • Manage scope and design changes through the Project Management of Change process.
  • Organize project reviews, audits, workshops, and timely close-out of action items.
  • Apply lessons learned and best practices from previous major capital projects.
  • Support project close-out reporting and after-action reviews.

Role Scope

  • Leads environmental assurance and compliance activities across the Phase 2 Project.
  • Ensures adherence to all applicable provincial and federal environmental regulations.
  • Supports successful delivery of environmentally sensitive marine and construction activities.
  • Acts as a key interface between project teams, Indigenous communities, regulatory bodies, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Provides technical leadership and risk-based decision support to project management.
  • Drives environmental performance improvements through monitoring, assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) designation or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive environmental experience within the oil and gas industry.
  • Experience managing environmental offset programs and environmental compliance programs.
  • Strong understanding of British Columbia provincial and Canadian federal environmental regulations.
  • LNG project, major capital project, or operational experience considered a strong asset.
  • Contract management and contract holder experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Strong risk management, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and contractors in a matrix organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, security, and environmental excellence.

Working Conditions

  • Based in Kitimat, British Columbia.
  • Office-hours schedule, approximately 40 hours per week, with flexibility to support project requirements.
  • Requires occasional field presence to support construction, commissioning, environmental monitoring, and contractor oversight activities.
  • Must comply with the Company's safety, drug-free, and harassment-free workplace requirements.
  • Subject to pre-employment medical assessments, background checks, driving record reviews, and site access testing requirements.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Working within a complex project environment adjacent to live operating facilities.
  • Managing compliance with demanding federal and provincial environmental regulations.
  • Supporting environmentally sensitive marine and dredging activities.
  • Maintaining strong trust-based relationships with Indigenous communities and local stakeholders.
  • Coordinating multiple stakeholders across various geographical locations.
  • Incorporating lessons learned from previous project phases and other major capital developments.
