GreenFirst is looking for a Supervisor, Forestry Operations to plan, organize, and supervise forestry operations for the Kapuskasing, Opasatika and Hearst Divisions, ensuring quality work with a view to supplying the mills in accordance with corporate objectives while maintaining a cost-effective manner.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and provide a safe workplace, seek improvements, support Health & Safety Program.
  • Lead a motivated, efficient and engaged operations team of direct reports and provide career development opportunities.
  • Coach and mentor employees to ensure maximum performance.
  • Recommend training requirements for employee development.
  • Provide direction to operations teams conferring with customers, consultants, contractors or suppliers.
  • Assist in Negotiating harvesting and individual equipment contract with internal and external contacts.
  • Support compliance with collective agreements and sound union/management/employee relations.
  • Maintain a communications program to keep your team informed.
  • Develop and maintain a good rapport between labour, customer, outside agencies, other users and management.
  • Report to Superintendent, Forestry Operations.
  • Participate in short term and midterm planning pertaining to budget requirements, staff selection and projects to be undertaken.
  • Assist in preparing and developing operations budgets, authorize expenditures, review and analyze financial reports and take appropriate actions.
  • Assist in coordinating the activities of the Forest Management, North Ontario West operations in order to maintain production targets, quality of wood product and wood supply for the Kapuskasing and Hearst Sawmills.
  • Prepare work schedules to ensure effective and efficient operations.
  • Ensure that all operations adhere to the Federal, Provincial and Municipal Laws and Regulations.
  • Advise and recommend changes or opportunities on operating costs to supervisor.
  • Report and explain deviations from planned activities.
  • Assist in any other sector of Forest Management, Northern Ontario West operations as requested by the Superintendents and Woodlands Manager.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education: College diploma or equivalent in a related field.
  • Experience: Must have 5 + years in a similar role.
  • Bilingual: (English & French) - An asset

Salary Range

$73,699 - $109, 962 annually.

  • Promouvoir et offrir un milieu de travail sécuritaire, chercher à apporter des améliorations, soutenir le programme de santé et de sécurité.
  • Diriger une équipe opérationnelle motivée, efficace et engagée composée de subordonnés directs et offrir des possibilités d'avancement professionnel.
  • Encadrer et guider les employés afin d'assurer un rendement maximal.
  • Recommander les besoins en formation pour le perfectionnement des employés.
  • Donner des directives aux équipes opérationnelles en consultation avec les clients, les consultants, les entrepreneurs ou les fournisseurs.
  • Aider à négocier les contrats de récolte et d'équipement individuel avec les contacts internes et externes.
  • Soutenir le respect des conventions collectives et les bonnes relations entre le syndicat, la direction et les employés.
  • Maintenir un programme de communication pour tenir votre équipe informée.
  • Développer et maintenir de bonnes relations entre les employés, les clients, les agences externes, les autres utilisateurs et la direction.
  • Rendre compte au surintendant, Opérations forestières.
  • Participer à la planification à court et moyen terme concernant les besoins budgétaires, la sélection du personnel et les projets à entreprendre.
  • Aider à la préparation et à l'élaboration des budgets d'exploitation, autoriser les dépenses, examiner et analyser les rapports financiers et prendre les mesures appropriées.
  • Aider à coordonner les activités de la gestion forestière, opérations du nord de l'Ontario occidental, afin de maintenir les objectifs de production, la qualité des produits du bois et l'approvisionnement en bois pour les scieries de Kapuskasing et de Hearst.
  • Préparer les horaires de travail afin d'assurer l'efficacité et l'efficience des opérations.
  • Veiller à ce que toutes les opérations respectent les lois et règlements fédéraux, provinciaux et municipaux.
  • Conseiller et recommander des changements ou des possibilités en matière de coûts d'exploitation au superviseur.
  • Signaler et expliquer les écarts par rapport aux activités prévues.
  • Aider dans tout autre secteur de la gestion forestière, opérations du nord de l'Ontario occidental, à la demande des surintendants et du gestionnaire des terres boisées.
  • Autres tâches connexes assignées.

Exigences

  • Formation : Diplôme universitaire ou équivalent dans un domaine connexe.
  • Expérience : Au moins 5 ans dans un poste similaire.
  • Bilinguisme (anglais et français) : un atout.
